E is coming up to 8 months and we've been baby led weaning for the past six weeks or so. I've noticed that he's dropped his milk down by himself to 4 sometimes 5 8oz bottles per day but he doesn't really seem to be eating a great deal even when more is offered. Most of it ends up smeared on him or dropped down to the dog! He very quickly seems to lose interest in what's on his tray and he prefers throwing it down to our ever waiting labrador. He's always gained weight (he's on the 90th centile anyway) although he hasn't been weighed since last month. Just wondering really what's normal given that he's dropped a couple of milk feeds?

Yes, by that age E had 5 bottles of 6-8oz a day. He is probably eating more than you realise and his tummy is still so little the milk will be filling him up. If he is still gaining weight, you have nothing to worry about x

Thanks WS that's what I thought, must a little paranoid I think! We've just had some potato, broccolli and sweetcorn but it's mostly on the splashmat. He does seem to enjoy putting everything in his mouth but then playing with it and dropping it on the floor x

I used to panic that E ate too much (and I think she still does but she is so active it should be ok...) It's all about fun for the first year so let him carry on exploring it and playing with it. Will keep him interested in food. BLW worked wonders for us and I'm really looking forward to starting it with M in the summer. I just hate the mess they make!!

I know, you wouldn't believe where it all gets would you?! H is really squeamish about wiping up all the gooey mess that gets all over him and the highchair, makes me laugh cos it's much better than dirty nappies and he doesn't mind those! We've got an ikea antilop highchair but cleaning all the nooks and crannies is a pain, don't know how he manages to get the bottom of the tray so filthy! x

We have the same one and I used to take the highchair apart and wash it in the bathtub with the shower hose! Worked a treat! My H was away for the first 3 months of BLW so never really experienced it. He'll get a shock this time around!

Ah great idea! Can't believe I didn't think of that, been struggling with the top in the sink!!! Thanks for that x

I think I have the opp problem I worry I am over feeding Disco seems to eat a lot more than his friends and still seesm to have a fair bit of milk (athough I BF so that is harder to judge)
if it helps this is where we are at
get up milk feed (long one usually 20 min +)
Breakfast whole weetabix with milk, or porriagde and fruit or ygohurt and fruit
sometimes Midmorning feed if he asks but rare now usually only on a yoghurt day usually short 5-10 min
Lunch todays was a bowl full of thick butternut and sweetpotatoe soup with a carrot muffin and papya for pudding
feed midafternoon again usually short
Dinner, tonight pasta with lentil ragu and cheese and a yoghurt for desert
pre bed expressed bottle of 5-6oz
then between 10 and 11pm dream feed
somedays he will also have a snack of rice cakes or similar
based on how he feeds I think it will be the mid afternoon feed that goes next as the mid morning is all but gone. We tried dropping the dream feed but he woke up about midnight or 1am so clearly wasn't readdy for that yet

Wow that's making me hungry! That soup sounds gorgeous i could eat that now Does he actually seem to eat a lot of it though or just play with it? I know E's getting some food now as I can tell in his nappies, but it just doesn't seem much. Although as WS said their tummies are tiny so doesn't take much to fill them up x

He eats a lot Estrellita, with soup we dip bread sticks, bread, home made muffin and he can feed himeself with preloaded spoon although that is exceptionally messy so we sometimes helpwith that.
We have noticed in the last month less food is getting wasted, we tried chilli last night and it was hilarious watching him pick bits off his bib. was still a very messy meal though!
