Cp can i ask where the my sound comes from?

My-ah. There's a girl at C's school called Maya, and that is how she pronounces it.

I teach three in one class at school and they all have this spelling but one is pronounced 'may-a', and two 'my-a'. I think I'd automatically go for 'may-a' though.

My H's best mates daughter is called Mya and a woman in my team at work's daughter is called Maya they are both pronounced My-ah/M-eye-ah so the same way CP pronounces it, that's the only way I've heard it pronounced but love the name. That or Mea (Me-ah) would have been my number 1 choice if we were to ever have a girl but we wouldn't use it now after H's best mate using it for their little one x

One of Zoe's friends is called this and pronounces it My-a. I wouldn't every make presumptions and would ask tbh, there are so many similar names and even the same spellings have different pronunciations for different people. I'm thinking Maya, Mia, Mya etc

Can be various, I've taught 3 M-eye-ers and one May-er in the same year group, this year I have a May-er. All spelt the same Maya.
I'n always surprised the name isnt further up the name chart.

Iv no idea where the m-eye-ah comes from, I worked with a dr who called her daughter that and it was spelled maya so that's how I'd pronounce it

Maya would be May-Ah to me
To me Mia would be pronounced Me-ah

To me My-Ah would be Mia/Meah
