I got a call from the hospital this morning at 5am asking me to see mum urgently. I live 45 mins away and by the time i got there she had passed away. I dont know what to do. She seemed so much better last night and the hospital hadnt made me aware she was so ill so wasnt expecting it.
One minute i feel crushed, exhausted and heartbroken and the next i feel empty and cant cry for her but keep thinking of all the practical things that i need to do and dont know where to start. Where do i start?? I keep expecting to wake up. None of this seems real.

practically are you the nok? If so then contact a funeral director, once you have the cause of death you can go and register the death and sort out plans. Did you mum havd any wishes?
My fil tragically dropped dead in the street one day so unfortunately we have been in your shoes and i think for the first while you just do everything in a haze totally numb.

So sorry for your loss. Having lost my mum I know how you feel. As it was so sudden it will take time for you to understand it. A total mixture of emotions is normal. Take this evening to yourself. Things can get sorted from tomorrow x

Oh MM I am so sorry to her this. Sending you a huge hug.
As for next steps, make sure that you look after yourself and get lots of help with the practicalities. Although I have no direct experience I would expect that the first thing you need to do is make funeral arrangements and then locate the will to sort out the finances. Are you next of kin? I did some probate work when training so have a bit of knowledge so let me know if you need any help.
