Can anyone help please. I know it is really really days yet as I only started today but I have moved a up to lumpy food today as he is more than capable of chewing them. Very small lumps too noting he can chock on.. I gavcarrot turkey, parsnip and carrot casserole for lunch the 1st two spoonfuls he took fine then after that he just kept gagging (def due to the texture trashier than taste). I have just given him spag Bol again he took 1st couple of spoonfuls fine then kept gagging until was made himself sick. I have now given him a purée dinner. can anyone offer me advise on how I get him used to lumps. I give him them carrot crisps and rice cakes and he is fine eating them does not gag at all.

I started with baby led weaning and found that S would gag when she had a new food to start with, I guess because she simply wasn't used to the feel of the food at the back of her throat. It sounded terrible, but she was able to move it to the front of her mouth and spit it out, so I just went with it. She soon got used to it and is fine with a range of foods now, but does still gag occasionally. They only way I can think he'd get used to it is to keep giving him it! If you're not happy with that, maybe leave it a bit and try him in a few weeks.

Thank you LWO. He is doing the same as your LO gagging when he swallows. I'm going to persevere as he will eat his weetabix or porridge in the morning with no issues and also he will happily eat his carrot crisps and rice cakes. How long did it take your LO to adjust to new textures? I know every baby is different too x
