No, you only need one if your baby is considerably big for dates, or you have history of diabetes, however my hospital now does them if your BMI is over 28.

everytime you see your MW you take a sample with you and they test it for a few things and one of the test shows how much sugar you have in your sample,if its high then they will get you to do a glucose test but your sample must be ok

I had one when I was about 34/35 weeks the dr said I was measuring big which shocked me because he said I was measuring about 2 weeks bigger but i had only been measured the previous week an i was exactly spot on for my dates, an he said babys about 6.12 lbs yet he did all this by just putting his hands on my belly never got tape measure out once, An I was scared becuase baby would be about 9/10 lbs when at term,

turned out i didnt have diabetes Just A lil extra fluid an I was slightly smaller for my dates an baby was infact 4lbs.5 an she was born at 39+6 wks at 7lbs10oz ,

so if you did need one in future good to no not to be worried becuase its not always true ;\)

I'm having one at 28 weeks.
I had 2 previous mc's and childhood epilepsy so the hospital have classed me as 'high risk' and won't take me off until they do a GTT. I can't see the relevance myself - I think it's just standard procedure if you are high risk. I've gotta have my anti D injection the same day so will will be 3 needles in one morning - not good

I am sure they do one as standard at 28 wks in my area. I was told to book it in when I reached 28 wks at my first ante natal appointment, i've never had any adverse urine tests results and im not over weight as I weighed just over 9 stone when I got pregnant and im not particularly old as im only 29. There were lots of other girls having it at the hospital when I got there for my blood test so I assume there is no special reason for having to have one.

Can I ask, the ladies who have had them because of family diabetes, does it make a difference which type? My Mum is insulin dependant, and I haven't been offered one?
