I have just had a call from the doctors to say I have Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) and she is prescribing me some antibiotics, which I have to pick up tonight. I did the stupid thing of googling it and read that it can cause problems in pregnancy. I am now panicking a little.
Just wondered if anyone else has had this and that the pregnancy went smoothly?

I havent had BV while pregnant but Im sure if there was any concerns the doctor would keep a closer eye on you. As for preventing a recurrance if this is something you're worried about... Make sure your partner gets treated too with antibiotics as it can be passed back & forth & guys often dont have symptoms to know the bacteria is there. I suffered with this a lot in my early twenties & the docs were always very good about prescribing to my boyfriend too.
Also if you do have probs with BV / thrush etc which can be more common during pregnancy due to the hormones... in Addition to the usual thrush advice (cotton undies, no fabric softener or bio washing powder for you undies, no strong body washes in the shower etc) I have found a great pro-biotic called 'pearls yb'... I take 1 every day & have gone from having thrush approx once per month & occasional BV & UTI's (for 11 years) to not a single problem in 9months!. This product is safe to use during pregnancy.
