Does any baby actually sleep through noise etc? Mine is such a light sleeper it's getting a bit ridiculous. Is there anything I can do, short of whiskey on his dummy to encourage him not to be?!
I feel like it's getting worse as I remember in the early days chopping veg in the kitchen with him snoozing in his chair next to me. Now I think twice about boiling the kettle when he's in the next room, and yesterday H told me to walk quieter upstairs as my footsteps were making him jump - he was sleeping on H downstairs. I mean, seriously?!
I don't know where I got the idea that baby being with you and hearing day to day noise meant they slept through anything? Is that a lie? Is it all a lie?

Isaac was a super light sleeper! Once I wanted to start a routine I had to allow him to nap in his room. From then we've used a fan for white noise during every sleep. We still use it now but it's more to drown out bin men/us coming up to bed etc. I don't know whether you'd be happy with that though, so how about the white noise app close to him? That's what I used to do when he was tiny, napping on the sofa.

Yes it's a lie in some cases. A is a ridiculously light sleeper, she will startle and wake at a sniff and like you I think twice about doing anything remotely noisy near her. She has for slightly better in recent weeks but still only naps for 20-40 minutes at a time. I also can't change the environment she's in once she's gone to sleep. So if for example she has gone to sleep in the pram not long before we go out she will wake by the time we get downstairs and outside or if she falls asleep in the pram walking outside she will wake if we go into a shop! It's not every single time but it's most of the time. Drives me potty but I'm lucky she's quite a happy girl. My son was also a light sleeper but not as bad, he at least had the decency to stay asleep for a couple of hours at a time though!

Thanks McS, he does have a slumber bear actually which we use every night so should probably try that in the day, I hadn't thought but it would be wise to have a familiar noise ticking over to hopefully cover my breathing and footsteps!!
LB Sam is the same with going into shops etc. such a pain! If he's in a deep sleep we tend to be ok but I can never predict and if I get caught out its like I can't get home once he's awake as he will at some point want picking up and doesn't take kindly to not being! We've had some very quick trip round Sainsburys! Hope she improves soon.
