I'd like to set up some more live web chats, similar to the one that we did with The Lullaby Trust back in November.
If you have suggestions of people, charities, brands etc. that you would like to hear from, please can you let me know.
Following your input, I have now lined up the following live web chats:
- Breastfeeding Support & Advice - La Leche League on Wed 11 Jun, 1pm - 2pm (further details to follow shortly)
- Weaning & Baby Nutrition - Annabel Karmel, Wed 25 June 12 noon - 1pm
I have also spoken with Gill Rapley and am hoping to agree a date for a discussion about Baby Led Weaning with her shortly.
I am hoping to work through all the topics suggested below, with the next one being nutrition for conception & pregnancy.

Not really sure who you would find to do it lol...but maybe a breastfeeding person and also a formula person?

Thanks CC - maybe the NCT or The Breastfeeding Network for breastfeeding? And at the same time we could ask our forum members to share their experiences of both types of feeding.

Yeah sounds good if you can :)! Think it would be good!

Is this just limited to BT subjects? If not then something about nutrition and conception/fertility. There is so much crackpot advice on the web but if you could find a good nutritionist who could debunk myths, explain the evidence behind some foods you hear of (brazil nuts, pineapple, for starters).

A nutritionist is a great idea KK - can cover everything then if they have time. You hear lots about what things you should/shouldn't eat in order to conceive and then again during pregnancy. Would be great to have some proper reasons behind it all!

Not sure this is the type of thing you were thinking of but how about a fitness/yoga instructor talking about best exercises with pregnancy, labour and postnatal recovery in mind?

Something re: weaning perhaps (not just blw IMO)? Maternity employment rights etc?
21/05/2014 at 18:23
Definitely a lot of good ideas & I think it would be useful to do balanced web chats, so if you do 1 on breast feeding 1 should be done on bottle, same with Traditional weaning & BLW which should be 2 different chats I feel. A nutritionist is a great idea too. Good luck finding experts. Maybe the Le Leache League would do the breast feeding 1 as they're fab for advice.

Another rec for la leche league, weaning would be great too. Not sure who, but information on c sections, what to expect and the recovery would be useful, the NCT courses don't tend to go into much detail.
Health visitors, what to expect, what's the purpose and what powers do they have & what support can they provide.

Thanks for all your input! I would like our web chats to cover TTC as well as pregnancy & beyond, so it's great to get a range of suggestions.
This is what we have so far:
Breast & Bottle Feeding - breastfeeding specialist, La Leche League recommended, + bottle feeding experiences
Nutrition - nutrition for conception & pregnancy
Weaning - BLW & traditional
Maternity employment rights
Fitness / exercise pre, post & during pregnancy
C-sections - what to expect + recovery
Health Visitors - what to expect, purpose, powers, support etc.
If you have other suggestions please let me know and in the meantime I will put together a list of relevant experts and start contacting people.

Birth options? (Ie MLU/delivery suite/home birth/elective section) - I know I'd in particular love to see something on home births....
06/06/2014 at 09:28
Have added to the list. Thanks Coco

I'd also like to see something on home births.
Also, I squeaked a bit when I saw gill rapley, that's exciting! Hope it comes off!

Home births is a great idea as it the different options and your rights in labour ie that you can refuse inductions, you can have a home birth if you want. Although I don't know much more that!!
I just hope that each discussion will just be about that topic & not negatives about the opposing view ie no anti breast feeding on the formula talk or vice versa (especially when it comes to weaning!!!), although I think we'll all pretty mature about these things on this forum!!

Good point Blackkat. We are aiming to keep all the topics / conversations balanced ie when discussing breastfeeding we will also be discussing bottle feeding and on the topic of weaning we will be covering both traditional weaning & BLW etc. which I hope will mean that there will be no requirement for negative posts within a particular web chat.
