I can't believe it. I was adamant we wouldn't wean before 6 mths (Orla is 5.5mths). I didn't ever really understand when people said that their baby really wanted food as Zoe was totally content until the weekend after she turned 6mths and we put a plate of food in front of her and she ate it.
For the last few weeks whenever we were eating Orla was whinging and whining. I started putting her up at the table with us in her highchair but that hasn't helped either. Today we were having brunch with some friends who were staying and Orla swiped a piece of toast ! I figured I would leave her with it as she would just play with it, nope, straight to her mouth and she started chewing away on it.
I figure that's about a Baby Led as we're going to get so we having a very gentle start. We were having fajitas for dinner so she has chomped on red pepper, cucumber and a tortilla wrap. All those were met with approval but when I tried her with some of Zoe's yoghurt she wasn't impressed. Of course this all happens 9 days before we head off on a cruise. I had presumed we would wait until we got back but guess now. We'll take some rice cakes and breadsticks and as it is Disney they say they will provide what you need for baby to eat on board so hopefully we'll be able to find some plain vegetables and fruit for her.

Ha! I like a girl who knows her own mind :D
Harry was nibbling before 6 months, he had a vice-like grip when I had certain foods (banana was a huge favourite). Sounds like you'll be fine for provisions on the cruise :)

Ha, they know their own minds dont they! Enjoy the cruise, report back too as I fancy the disney ones. I'm sure O will be well catered for with them x

My middle child was like this.

We started Samuel today, just some carrots and broccoli but it went straight in the mouth so he seems to get the idea of it. My hv will be pleased as she's been harping on about weaning for ages as if I'm the only person she knows who has waited - and keeps telling me 6 months is 24 weeks lol

Ally, that is such a coincidence. Zoe and I have shepherds pie for tomorrow so guess Orla will be giving the carrots and brocolli a go too. I don't think we can do meat until 6mths can we ?

It's ace! Love BLW, E did the same thing at the exact same age as Orla as he swiped a pink lady apple from me and took a bite! it was brilliant. Have fun!

S did exactly the same at the same age! If they're anything like P&O you'll find loads for her to eat on the cruise. The only problems we had were that they sometimes put butter on the veg, so we couldn't just get it from the buffet as S is milk intolerant and had to ask for it. I did seem to be the only BLW mother on the ship though and got a load of dirty looks every time she gagged on something. (Not that I cared less, particularly as one mother took her mother with her to meal times as one of them had to hold the baby's hands still while the other shovelled baby food in his mouth. Sigh.)
Just don't be surprised if they want to puree everything for you. It took a few days for them to understand that I wanted soft veg, not completely pureed stuff. Find the restaurant manager as soon as you've settled in and explain your requirements. It'll be a fantastic way for her to try loads of new things, maybe even stuff you wouldn't have thought of, without you having to cook it for her! I

I'm a bit anxious about her trying anything new on the ship just in case of an allergic reaction. I don't know why, we don't have a history of allergies but cruising is so out of my comfort zone that I'm anxious about everything
