    Hi
I was just wondering where the best place is to buy maternity pads, do you have to get them in places like mothercare or do asda sell their own brand that are cheaper? Or would a good thick nighttime sanitary towel do the trick?
    Thanks

Not sure which are the best ones so would be interested to hear on what others think. However, i have bought 3 packs so far from Tesco's. They were 99p but i'm not sure how many are in there as they are packed away in my hospital bag at the moment! Will see how i get on with them before getting any more. x

I've been using the Boots Slim Pads and they're very comfy. Buy a few packets - you'll need more than you think. I didn't think you were meant to use an ordinary towel as it was harder to monitor the level of blood loss?!

I've been stocking up on the Tesco's ones just chucking them in my weekly shop for a few weeks now

Can't beat the price 99p is a bargain! They are good quality too, opened one of them up to have a look.

I bought 2 big packs (48) from Mothercare and then the boots own, switching to the thin one after a few weeks.
But yes, buy loads more than you think! - I changed mine every time I went for a wee (use the "old" one to hold over any stitches) - You can always keep any left-overs to use for your period when it returns.

asda sell their own, bought a pack of those last week, only about ??1.15 (don't know what they're liek tho as they didn't sell thelm when i had ds) tesco also do their own which are quite good, boots are the best tho, and wilkinsons are the worst! defo buy lots, u go through more per week of those than u do of sanitary towels when on AF, i think i had about 9 packs and that did me about 2.5weeks, then for the last week i just used panytliners as my bleeding had slowed right down (i had an em c section tho so they hoovered out most of it lol, u can expect to bleed on average about 6 weeks i think) x

they recommend u don't use sanitary towells as they're 'too good' at locking away the bleeding making it harder to tell if ur bleeding too much or detecting any other problems of that nature, iyswim? maternity pads aren't as absorbant, meaning u ahve to change them more often, but also means they can see more easily the colour of the blood and how much there is so they can spot a PPH more easily. hth x

WoWBaby is right about not using sanitary towels.

I've used Boots own with both of mine and got on fine with them. Most of the supermarkets do their own, but the Boots ones aren't expensive, the think ones are ??1 for ten I think. I;d get about 4-5 packs of the thick ones for the first few days, then move to the thinner ones with wings if you prefer (they're also gentler on piles!). Blood loss really does vary, with my first I wore two at a time for the first day, and the padding helped me to sit down with stitches too - I got through two packs in hospital. This time the blood loss has been lighter, but still got through most of a pack in hospital. The hospital might provide them, but in my hospital they aren't sticky-backed, so it is better to have your own!

But don't buy Mothercare thin ones with wings - the wings are just in the wrong place!

Boots all the way, they are great and a lot more comfy especially if you have stitches, buy loads because for the first 2 weeks I had to wear 2 pads, not for the blood loss but for the comfort.

I had three different sorts and found Boots and Tescos the best. I also had mothercare ones, but they were a bit smaller and I found they didn't stay in place as well as the others. The hospital also supplied them, but theirs were rubbish.

As everyone has said, make sure you buy loads. Initially I was using two at a time as the padding helped me sit down after having stitches and had to send my mother on an emergency run for some more on her way to the hospital when she visited.
