    Hello,

I was thinking of getting a pillow to help me sleep better and stay on my side! Does anyone have any suggestions? I have been looking at the Dream genii, has anyone got this one?

    Hey,

I dont know what sort of thing you are looking for in terms of a pillow but I couldnt justify spending ??40 or so pounds on a pillow. My mw best friend recommended a V-shaped orthopaedic pillow from Dunelm Mill which cost ??5.99!! Its fab and so much cheaper. Can also get them in QD I think.

    Hi,

I have the Dream Genni pillow, and although it took a week or so to get used to, I find that it really helps keep me sleeping on the left hand side. Without it, I would normally end up sleeping on my back, so I'd recommend it, but just keep going with it even if you think you'll never get used to it because eventually you do. I had to also swap sides in bed with DH as otherwise I would end up snoring in his ear!

Not quite sure why they say to sleep on your left as opposed to your right, so will be asking my midwife next week!

Sleeping on your left gets baby into optimum position for birth as the biggest part of their head is positioned at the biggest part of your pelvis (apparantly - dont know how I know this, im having a planned twin c-section! lol!)

    Hello!
I just use a spare pillow from the other bedroom - I put it between my knees and it really helps me sleep more comfortably on my side (I think sleeping on your side is a case of getting used to it as for a few weeks I kept waking up on my back again, but I am getting better now)! x

I love mine... best purchase made so far, works whether you sleep on your left or right side (don't need to move the pillow to swop sides either) and is very comfy - I think it was worth every penny and it can be used as a feeding pillow afterwards.

Just looked on the internet for the reason why we're supposed to sleep on our left side and this is what came up...

Although there's no real harm in sleeping on your right side, lying on your left side is actually good for you and your baby: It improves the flow of blood and nutrients to the placenta and it helps your kidneys efficiently eliminate waste products and fluids from your body. That, in turn, reduces swelling in your ankles, feet, and hands. If you train yourself to sleep on your left side early on, you'll have an easier time falling asleep when your belly is bulging later.

During the second half of pregnancy, avoid sleeping on your back, a position that puts the full weight of your uterus on your spine, back muscles, intestines, and the inferior vena cava (the vein that transports blood from your lower body to the heart). Back-sleeping can also put you at risk for backaches and hemorrhoids, inefficient digestion, and impaired breathing and circulation. Lying on your back in the second and third trimester can also cause changes in blood pressure. For some women, it can cause a drop in blood pressure that can make them feel dizzy; for others, it can cause an unwanted increase in blood pressure

I have a pillow that my sister got from TK max for a tenner (bargain!) that my hubby has nicknamed 'The Slug' because it is just a long thin pillow (and apparently I look like I'm wrestling a slug when I try and roll over in bed with it!!) that I put under my head, under my bump and between my legs.... it is perfact and I'm not looking forward to having to get rid of it after Peanuts born!!!

    Hi

I bought a pillow from Aldi's for ??10, its a maternity one and is great, I wouldnt spend a fortune on one, seems pointless!
I've also used just a cushion under my bump and one tucked in behind my back for support which worked just aswell.
