I'm looking to buy a maternity swimming costume & am gonna gonna get a cheap 1 from ebay (I some people don't like 2nd hand swimming costumes but that doesn't bother me & not paying the expensive rates for something I'll wear for only 6/7 months. I was just wondering if anyone would recommend a tankini over a swimming costume? Will be using it to go swimming with my toddler at her weekly lesson but also I'll be going away to France to a eurocamp as well. Thinking a 2 piece might be better with frequent loo visits!! Any opinions or experiences of maternity swim wear? Thanks x

I had a one piece from next that was in the style of a tankini with some mesh connecting the Top and bottom - it was awful! I spent the whole time I had it on constantly pulling the top bit down so people couldn't see my huge belly! Not sure if an actual tankini would be the same?

I prefer a swimming costume rather than tankini. I don't like the top riding up, etc and like the support a costume gives. I find them more flattering on me too. When pregnant last time, I wore a tummy control swimming costume which I bought prior to being pregnant and was surprised it still fit at the end! I also think a costume is a bit more practical when swimming with F.

Thanks for replies x
I've got a tankini from Asos and so far it's been fab. It doesn't ride up, in fact it's probably made a little long so that it doesn't. I can't comment vs a one piece as Ive not tried a mat one.

I've a maternity tankini which I got off of ebay. The top is much longer than my normal ones and I used it yesterday and had no problems. Never tried a maternity swimsuit (not worn a swimming costume since I was about 12!) so can't compare the two.

Agree on the tankini, I have one from ASOS which I haven't had to pull down (although am only 19 weeks atm) plus I think they look a bit nicer than a costume. Although I haven't tried a costume so can't comment on how comfy it is.

I had a tankini and the top is definitely longer than a normal one.
When I was pregnant with W I chose it over a costume so that if I managed to get a water birth I could wear the top part in the pool.
As it happened I didn't care about being naked as stripped off straight away to get in the bath and ended up with a cs , but it was good for me to have the option if I had felt like I wanted to be a bit covered up

Ooh, I hadn't thought about using it for the birth. I desperately want a home water birth so that'd work. I've managed to buy from the MD selling page from a fellow MDer. Have gone with the tankini!
Thanks for all your replies though ladies x
