I have been browsing this week in preparation for the coming months. Why does all the maternity wear I have seen require me to dress like my mum? or worse still have a stupid slogan tshirt?
Where is the best place to look? There has to be some decent stuff out there?

My frustration is that everything seems to be black, but then I probably do already dress like your mum. The places I like (but you might think are frumpy) are :-
Have you looked at Asos and New Look ? They seem to be the places that the trendier girls go to.

I've found lots of stuff in Asda (you can order online and get delivered into store) and H&M. Other stuff is a mish mash of secondhand and non-maternity but the right shape to last.

I have stuff from New Look, H&M, Mothercare and Next. Next dont have any instore but do online, the other have instore ranges, New Look has loads online and you can get it delivered to store. I have also gone down the route of buying t-shirts a couple sizes bigger than normal from Primark and wearing a cardi. I'd recommend a good pair of over-bump jeans, and mix and match tops! And dresses and leggings are comfy too. You could also try Matalan, Peacocks, ebay.

I got quite a bit from Asos when I was pregnant- might be worth a look?
All of my maternity wear has come from H&M, Topshop or Isabella Oliver all of whom I would recommend. Isabella Oliver has emailed me today saying that they have 41% off today (random figure I know!) if you enter FASHION41 at the checkout. Whilst her stuff is quite pricey I have found that investing in a few better capsule pieces has seen me through really well.

New look for me. I didn't want to look frumpy so got maternity versions of my usual skinny jeans, tshirts and cute tops

Most of mine was new look and h&m

I have some tops from New look...for bottoms i have been lucky with matalan.....
All online shopping tho!

I've found H&M best recently, but have a few things from New Look too. I like the stuff on asos but not placed an order yet.

I found mat clothes so frumpy, I didn't dress like that before so why would I start when pregnant, and I hated those 'I love my bump/hands off my bump' t shirts
I had a mix of asos, matalan, h&m, and just normal clothes but bigger sizes.

I had not thought of most of these places for mat wear! You ladies are little gems!
Some good ideas too about mixing with normal clothes. I love this place :-)

First of all, don't expect to be able to walk into your local shopping centre and just buy mat wear - the only places that stock maternity wear at bluewater are mothercare (frumpy), topshop (small selection but good) and h&m (larger selection). I found h&m (their trousers/jeans and dresses in particular), topshop, new look, next, asos and asda all good. I also bought some plus size stuff from asos which worked quite nicely. I got a nice top from mamas and papas, and h&m tights are good.
I bought quite a bit of stuff from eBay, especially Isabella Oliver stuff, which I can't really afford to buy new but it washes brilliantly and always looks great. If you can afford anything from there, it's well worth the money (and as Ferbs has said, they often do discount codes too).
I'd also recommend that you don't bother with maternity bras if you can help it - go straight to nursing bras (as they have the clip). Only problem is that the size of your boobs is a bit unpredictable post-birth, but you might save money that way.

New look has been my saviour both last time and this time, I'm lucky that the one near work has a decent selection in store too.
I'm also adding to my ASOS order as we speak, but as always I expect at least half of it will be returned as it's normally poor quality.
Where I can find something suitable for a period drama party in July is the question though!

Last time as I was working I wore a lot of wrap dresses which were just stretchy so in my normal size in normal not maternity. I got a couple from M&S I lived and died in.
ASOS and New Look are my absolute faves. I'd rather have more selection of cheaper pieces as I do get bored of clothes quite quickly.
Went into New Look today and bought a non-maternity midi stretch dress in a size 16 - I am normally a 10!

All my maternity jeans and trousers are h&m but I do always need a size up in there for bottoms. I've got the same skinnies in a few colours. Just the mat version of the normal ones actually. Lots of jumper dresses are just normal that I have. I also got quite a few long sleeved t shirts from h&m.
In general dresses are way comfier as you get bigger. I had a great Isabella Oliver wrap dress last time but seem to have lost in between babies! Her stuff is well worth the money IMO

I've lived in:
H&M maternity jeans
H&M normal non maternity jumper dresses with New Look over bump leggings
Isabella Oliver tops with jeans
I also had next/h&m maternity tops for work and a couple of Isabella Oliver wrap dresses
More casual tops from ASOS
Coat from ASOS
My maternity wardrobe is actually ridiculously huge as I've been pregnant in totally different seasons each time. Bad planning!

Oh my bestie has said she will come around and go through my wardrobe with me. She has had her 1st so knows what "normal" clothes work and what won't. Think I will use this as a starting point and then check out H & M online for jeans and get some wrap dresses for you. Muchas gracias!!!
