I made an appointment myself to see the midwife. I seen the doctor first and they said to go to reception and ask to make one.
Could you not ring up and ask?x

I think it depends on each area. i had to wait for my midwife to contact me via phone but ive heard other women on here say they could make there own appointment straight away. Your gp surgery will tell u if u call and ask

I was in London when I got pregnant with my first and just went to the GP when I found out. She referred me to the midwives and they sent a letter with all the details for my first appointment and scan. Xx

It depends on your area I think.
Usually your GP passes on your details to the midwives (although in your case it sounds like the nurse has done this for you) and then the midwives either ring you to book in your appointment or they send out a date via letter which you should call if it's inconvenient.
I would guess that as it's fairly urgent then you would get a phone call.
They won't scan you before 7 + weeks though, because there isn't really much to see before then and I'm guessing they will want to check a heartbeat etc which is only visible from 7 weeks onwards. Early scans tend to be between 7 and 10 weeks x
