Towards the end of my pregnancy I had pre eclampsia.
i was being closely monitored and at 34+5 I started steroid injections With a view to induce at 36 weeks
unfortunaley my liver and kidney function deteriorated and they called me in to be induced at 35+4
so I started to receive my first prostin gel, I instantly felt period pain but nothing else.
after 6 hours there was no change, so I received another dose of gel. After the gel they put my on the monitor, as the midwife was feeling my tummy for the baby my waters broke
I was feeling mild period pains and used the ball for a while.
At approx 2am I was moved to a delivery room to receive my epidural so I could go on the syntocin drip.
this is where I met my good friend gas and air
the drip was started and contractions started hard and fast. Unfortunately my epidural was only working at a 40% effectiveness!
i got through with the gas.
with the drip being put to maximum I Started to struggle.
My contractions eventually were 4-5 in every ten minutes, they were so strong and the epidural was useless, I managed them all with gas . I had about 2 mins to catch a breathe before the next one, my mum and husband said I even managed to fall asleep in that 2 mins before the next one
i also used so much has I provided quite a lot of entertainment for everyone.
after an examination they said I had reached 4cms, so would leave me another 4 hours to see how I progress.
this is when I started bribing drs for a section, begging, telling them my professional obstetric opinion, and made them aware of my human rights lol
the pain was unbearable but in all honesty 4 hours went quickly however I didn't progress from 4cms, so they agreed to my demands and gave me a section.
i had my epidural removed and was given a spinal block - absolutely amazing after 27 hours I was pain free
at 17.27 on May 1st Jessica Isla was born Weighing 5lbs4ozs
