Bethan's Birth Story
Saturday 13th December (40+4)I woke at 6 am on Saturday and went downstairs with O and L as they were up early. I started having some painful Braxton Hicks shortly after and I expected them to peter out like they did on previous occasions, but they carried on till about 14:30, when they seemed to change in frequency and were getting stronger. At around 16:30, I rang the MW as I was unsure of what was going on due to the contractions being every 5 minutes but not lasting long enough. The MW said I could come in and be examined, which I did and had a sweep at the same time - she said I had a super stretchy cervix as she could stretch it right out and said that delivery would probably be very quick (famous last words...).
H and I went back to MILs where we ate and I had a bath, I sat in the bouncy chair for a few hours to get things going. The contractions were getting stronger but were every 6-7 mins apart so I was getting very peed off. By 11pm, H wanted to get a kebab and I thought a walk would do me some good and also get things going. About 5 minutes into the walk, the contractions started getting stronger so we turned back and walked the streets around MIL's house. I rang the MW again as I was now mooing my way through the contractions and they started to feel pushy. It was decided to go to the birthing unit.
Sunday 14th December (40+5)It was about 12:15am when we got to the birthing unit and I was having to resist the pushy feelings that the contractions were causing on the drive there and during the walk to the maternity ward. I was examined by the MW and now 6cm dilated and still had a very stretchy cervix, she again stated that the pushing stage would be very quick. She went and got the gas and air - lovely stuff - and I knew the baby would be delivered soon. I couldn't get comfy on the bed so I thought I'd stand up as it felt more comfortable. This was a game changer as the contractions suddenly got much more intense.
I started to push with my contractions - the first push caused my waters to break, second push caused my waters to explode everywhere, and the third push caused Bethan's head to start crowning but it was a mega-pushy contraction that kept on going which resulted in her flying out, her fall being broken by the MW but Bethan just slipped through her fingers and landed on her side on the floor - this also caused the umbilical cord to snap and so there was blood everywhere - up the walls, all over the floor, over the MW, it was a blood bath! I looked at the clock, I had pushed my baby out in 5 minutes. We were checked over, Bethan was fine and I got away with a graze - I had 2nd degree tears with my previous births - even though it was such a speedy birth. So glad I won't be giving birth ever again!

Congratulations DS! Blimey though - that sounds so dramatic AND traumatic! But good that it was nice and quick without a nasty tear - could have been a lot worse there!

Blimey DS - What a story! So glad that she arrived speedily and relatively safely. Sounds like she's an adventurous one though!

Glad everything was ok - I hope one day you will get over the shock of 3 pushes and enjoy telling Bethan all about it; the boys love hearing all about their dramatic entries into the world now they're bigger!
