How are we all getting on? Michael is 16 weeks today and it really has flown by. Technically I could start shovelling baby rice into him next week (although I have no plans to before anyone starts to panic ) He is teething so badly the poor little man. His teeth are close to cutting but aren't quite coming through yet so he is constantly chewing his hands, and worse, the little monkey has found his thumb! I don't want a thumb sucker so keep pulling it out... bad mummy! He has an awful dribble rash too bless him! Despite the teething, he is still a smiley, happy little man and any sign of grumpiness is just him shouting until I pick him up so it's not too bad! He is sleeping through although he is disrupting my sleep! Not much we can do about that though. We are currently considering moving him in with Ella when he hits 6 months as we are staying in this little apartment until next February. I've stopped BFing. A number of reasons but the day I found myself trying to prize something dangerous out of Ella's hands while Michael was attached to my breast made me think enough was enough (a regular occurrence as 'someone' needed my attention). Feeding on demand and watching a toddler didn't go hand in hand. But he had a great start and I'm happy with the decision. It was also after the formula feeding that Michael started sleeping through just as Ella did when we switched her over (I know a lot of people disagree with this but it's a big coincidence for it to happen to both of my babies surely?!) After switching, we also have a little routine going on that works so well. I get an hour to myself in the afternoon while both babies are napping, it's amazing!
He has his next lot of jabs coming up next week. Then we are taking him on his first holiday at the end of this month! I'm taking Ella snorkelling as she has never been. Can't wait! AND very glad AF arrived today (after 13 months it's strange) so I can enjoy the time away!!

Firstly hooray to AF arriving before your hols. M is a cutey but
poor boy with his toothy pegs.
S is just beautiful and we have started propping her up as her head control has been amazing from birth so want to encourage her as much as we can. her sleeping is a little off at the moment and is such a little spider monkey when you pick her up-needy child in our midst but we don't care as the cuddles are ace. She is 8 weeks on Friday. PS ssssssh but we have been discussing number two
Here is our little madam on Friday
Im on my phone so no idea why the pics have come out twice - sorry.

Number 2!!!!! Ahhhh lovely lovely! She so needs a sibling, it's the best!
She's a beaut! Are you doing lots of tummy time? That'll really encourage her head movements. M is in his proper pram now as he can blooming sit up if aided and likes it that way! He also insists on standing, all bloody day Are you loving it despite the sleepless nights?! Nothing wrong with a spider monkey when it's your first baby! It's only after having Michael that I realise just how much attention Ella got! She was very very lucky
08/04/2013 at 17:50
Yes she loves her mat for tummy time. We have also got the hand and foot finders that jingle when she moves which are really cute. The sleepless nights are pants but its for a great reason. Remind me of that when I'm a total sleep deprived zombie!

Will do! It gets better I promise xx

Aw both of your little ones are adorable!
Ws - Is that your hubby done with travelling now, or is he still off and around? Any sign of Ms passport arriving? And where are you off? So many questions.! I am jealous that your switch to formula yields nights of sleeping through, no such luck here!
Vikster - We too have been considering number 2.. That it is never, EVER happening! Haha. I'm only joking. I've no desire right now to rewind even by a few weeks, I have loved every single second i've spent with E, even 99% of the night feeds, but, I'm enjoying her more each day, if that makes any sense? Glad the gorgeous S is loving being up - E is the same, there is no stopping her! And how is Kat doing?
As for us... Hubby has been away for 7 long, long weeks but is finally back tomorrow, when E will be 13+2.. I am petrified she won't know who he is, or more that he won't know her little ways and how to handle her now! We've had a lovely week of sleeping through then BANG arrive the teething pains and she is struggling. Like M she has no sign of any cutting yet but a red dribble marked chin and sore hands - I hope they can't stretch their mouths fitting those hands in there!! I keep takings E's hands out her mouth and giving the dummy too WS, I am mean!
We've managed to get E off all the medicine she needed for her tummy, the doctor said she'd improve at the 3 month mark and that mixed with the switch to comfort formula has really made a difference. She no longer needs to lactose drops, nor the lactulose for her tummy and even the infacol has been ditched and she is still bringing up wind. She has however had a chest infection so we're struggling on with that too, but I think after 2 weeks it is clearing slowly now! Which is good as we've our first family holiday to spain in less than 2 weeks.
E is also loving being able to see around - i've just got her a bumbo (though only put her in briefly as it's really not for her age, but i'm sturggling to keep her upright all the time now she is getting heavier.

LM- H will be of again next week. Fun! Hope you are loving having your H home! Ms passport has arrived yay! We are going on holiday in 2 weeks so phew! Sounds as though E is coming along leaps and bounds! She is beautiful xx
10/04/2013 at 17:55
WS - Michael looks so big now! Much bigger than my little dot. He's beautiful! Glad that he's sleeping well now that you have moved on to FF. I ahve given O one or two bottles of formula for his last feed and it has definitely made an impact on his sleep, I have to drag myself away from the formula at night time, it's too tempting!
Vik- Number 2? Eek. I am MEGA excited about this! S is a little beaty, she's changed so much since I last saw her, looks more and more like K every day.
LM - Will be lovely for you to have your H home, I don't know how you do it! She holds her head up so well!
Well I've just counted (bad mummy! and O is 17 weeks. It's a year to the day that I got my BFP so have been feeling a bit fluffy all day, still can't believe he's all mine. He's outgrown his moses basket (no idea how as he's still a little midge) so we've bought a little cot to go beside our bed. I've stopped swaddling him and have switched to a sleeping bag so he's become a bit more unsettled at night as he;s not used to the freedom but I'm hoping he'll get used to it. He's so smiley and happy, had our first proper laugh on the weekend but the little monkey won't do it again!
10/04/2013 at 17:56
Oh and WS don't let him be a thumb sucker, I still do it now at 25 years old!
10/04/2013 at 20:06
Hello everyone- how cure are all our little people!
WS- glad M is starting to sleep through....not jealous....at all.....honest! I can imagine BF on demand is hard work with a toddler you did so well! How exciting for your first holiday as a family of 4 where are you off too? How is the new maid working out?
Vik- oooo number 2 already you are keen! Before J arrived we were planning to try again after a year......this has now been pushed back to about 3! I can't believe S is only 8 weeks she looks so much more grown up that that.
LM it must be so hard having H away for so long- I dread being in my own for a night let alone 7 weeks! Glad E's tummy troubles are easing, hopefully it will continue! Did you try teething powders? J cut his first two teeth a couple of weeks ago but they seemed to take forever to come through- we had four days rest then the rosy cheeks and ear grabbing came back poor thing!
HT can't believe O has outgrown his Moses basket he's too dinky! I remember the first time J giggled it took me three days to get him to do it when H was there I'm sure he thought I was making it up!
Well J was 5 months yesterday and is huge, he honestly looks like a toddler lol. I've cone to accept that he will probably not sleep through for a very long time (ff did not have the same affect as it did on M&E ws :-() he only feeds once but still wakes for cuddles during the night, but we will get there even if it does mean some of my night is spent sleeping on a chair with him propped up on me. He is getting a real personality now and I genuinely live spending time with him (I'll be honest not a massive fan of the newborn days). He's started reaching up for a cuddle especially first thing in the morning when he's all smiles and excited to see me- it really does make the sleepless nights worth it. We're starting to think about weaning as I discussed his feeding with the HV as he's showing signs for being ready to wean. I'm going to wait until he can sit unaided which will probably be the next couple of weeks- slightly before 6 months but only by a week or two so don't think it will do any harm- he's now on 38oz of milk a day greedy thing (and would probably have more) so I keep getting him weighed to check he's not being over fed but he's tracking nicely along the 98th centile. Been thinking what type of weaning and not sure if totally BLW is the way for u so will probably do a mix of finger foods and purée- cant believe he will have real food soon. Here he is in the pram earlier:
10/04/2013 at 22:43
Aw look at them all - how on earth are they all growing up so quickly??
Zach is 14 weeks old now and thriving. He is still little for his age but tracking the 25th percentile perfectly. I've taken him every two weeks to make sure. He is now smiling/laughing all day long and I swear saying 'hungry' when he wants milk, or 'ungi' as it comes out. Mum and Dad have been here for a couple of days and laughed every time they heard it. A coincidence I know but it sounds so funny...
He's having an ounce or two of baby apple juice during the day this week, mainly a couple of sips after a sleep as it seems to satisfy a thirst in him when he doesn't want/need my boobs. We've also (and I'm ready to be flamed for this) but tried him on some rusk the last few days, only 1/4 of one a day, it's dramatically mushed up with breast milk so basically breast milk on a spoon!! Again, he loves it. We've been dipping the very tip of his dummy for the odd flavour over the last couple of weeks too to get him used to things. It's not about getting 'food' down him at the moment, it's about getting him used to a slightly different texture in his mouth, so if it all comes out then we're not bothered at all. If it goes in, then fine!
He's rolling onto his front from his back with ease (when he's in the mood to do it) and is stretching so much on his back, he's nearly rolled onto his front anyway! His head/back control is getting much better too. He's enjoying sitting on his bottom whenever he can although he's still too small for his bumbo style seat. However, he loves his jumperoo and has today suddenly understood what it's for so it's been a delight to see him enjoying himself.
After bath, story and bottle, he is asleep by 9:30 every night and normally goes through until 3:30am - 4am until his feed so sleeping really well. H's been broken for a few nights but last night was 'normal' so I'm hoping he's fixed now.
I am still amazed how much love you can feel for another human being...
10/04/2013 at 23:16
WS - Boo to the teething but yay to sleeping through. How is E with him now?
V - Glad she likes tummy time and loves cuddles. You can never give enough of those.
LM - I'm glad her feeding has improved and it's better for her, must make life much easier.
H - O is a handsome boy (but then all O's are ). He'll soon get used to the sleeping bag.
La - I'm looking forward to weaning but I'm quite happy to wait till 6 months as it's a faff. I can't believe J is nearly 6 months old!
MB - I'm glad Z is all smiles and is rolling now. I hate having to say it, but those baby juice drinks have sugar in and are not good for Z, it can also affect how much milk he takes in and your supply as your topping him up with stuff he doesn't need (that goes for the rusk too). He will also get tastes and textures through what you eat (as your milk will become flavoured) and baby toys. Enjoy him for the baby that he is and don't be in a rush on to the next stage. x
AFM - Dare I say it, L has been sleeping through for the past couple of weeks (she'll break tonight now I've said something) and it has been great. She is such a content little baby and is ready to give me smiles. I think she's starting to giggle but it's more of a "he, he". I'm now having to start thinking about hair accessories as her hair has reached her eye brows!
11/04/2013 at 04:05
MB- I do a lot of things that are against the guidelines too- J has been in his own room since 10 weeks, I make bottles how your bit meant too, will probably start weaning before 6 months as long as you have a happy, healthy baby that's all that matters.
DS- look at all that hair! Very jealous she sleeps through! I don't think J was born with that function :-(
11/04/2013 at 04:45
HT- Yes my baby is getting fat and yes, O is teeny in comparison! I think FF is increasing his size dramatically like it did with E! My babies are huge! O is so beautiful! He will laugh again. I have found Ms tickle spot and it's a guaranteed giggle every time! I love baby laughs! I won't allow thumb sucking because I have 2 friends like you HT haha! They both insisted the same with E x
la- Off to Oman for snorkelling and dolphin spotting, I can't wait! Also driving back via a big waterpark for the children to have some fun (and the big children will enjoy it I'm sure!) Maid started out great until someone poached her from the company to be their full time live in maid grrr! My replacement is ok but slower and I have to constantly explain what I need her to do (she also likes to stop cleaning and sit down playing with the children...) J will get the sleep thing one day! E was about 5 days off 6 months when we first tried her with food. We did BLW and she was able to sit unaided and hold food so figured she was ready (and she was!) Enjoy it, it's so much fun! If you are not comfortable with fully BLW, a lot of people mix purees and finger foods. I'm sure it's just as much fun! x
MB- I'm glad you said you are prepared to be flamed because I'm going to do just that. I wouldn't even give baby juice or rusks to my nearly 3 year old! It's so sugary and like DS said, completely unnecessary. A BF baby does not need any water (or juice) before 6 months and you will effect your milk supply. Honestly, you might as well spoon feed him sugar. Lovely, he is 3 months old. His little body is not ready for any solids, juices, etc. He is not developed enough to digest these things and they can/will cause problems. There is nothing nutritious in either of these things. Enjoy him for the baby he is. They grow so fast and it's something you will never get back. I regret so many things I did with Ella before she was really ready and I was always desperate for her to hit the next stage. I wish I could take it all back and enjoy the baby days properly all over again. Zachs eyes are amazing! He does look a lot like you x
la- I don't agree at all with as long as baby is happy and healthy, that's what matters. Sugary substitutes are not healthy for a little one.
DS- I love her hair!!! Michael is jealous, he's still pretty bald... Yay for sleeping through! Clever little girl! She's just cute! I do love how content and happy M is, he sounds very similar to L. Although he has realised he needs to shout for my attention just to be heard over his big sister
11/04/2013 at 06:36
La - J is gorgeous. I can't wait for o to start reaching out for cuddles. A few weeks of the 6 month mark will be fine, I bet he's going to love his food!
MB - I'm sorry but I'm going to have agree with DS and WS - why be in such a rush to feed him so much sugar? I know the packets say reduced sugar and from 4 months blah blah blah but it's all just a load of unnecessary crap, your milk really is enough for him for plenty of time yet. I'm far from perfect and there are guidelines and recommendations that I probably haven't followed to the book but there's a big difference between making up a bottle differently to the guidelines and giving a 4 month old all that sugar. If you think he needs something to quench his thirst why not give him water? He doesn't need juice! I know that water's not recommended but if you want to give him something that's better than apple juice.
DS - I've not seen a recent pic of L - she's beautiful. Clever girl sleeping through, I do hope you didn't jinx yourself!
WS - He's not fat he's perfect! My mother should have known better as she's a thumb sucker too. How bloody embarrassing. She keeps telling me to encourage it when he's sucking his fists!!
11/04/2013 at 06:51
what beautiful babies! Sound like everyone is getting on very well, it's scary how quickly the are all growing up!
MB - as WS, DS and HT have said it really can be harmful to give Z that at this age, his digestive system just isn't mature enough to cope with it.
B is nearly 10 weeks now and tracking the 98th centile nicely, she is very smiley and has started getting her legs up and rocking them in prep for rolling - quite a shock as J was a late roller! Most nights she sleeps well and goes from 11-5. She is still bfed and still hasn't settled into a pattern which is frustrating but im sure we'll get there!
11/04/2013 at 07:08
HT- perhaps your mum thinks its cute for adults to suck their thumbs?! Since we took Ella's dummy away she has started sucking her hair! I too did this...
Garfield- same here, E took ages to roll but M was doing it at 5 weeks! It's funny to see such a difference with the second one! 11-5 is fab, I wouldn't complain x
11/04/2013 at 07:28
I have woken up recently with my thumb in mouth (I haven't sucked my thumb since about 13!) maybe my subconscious is jealous of Js dummy!
11/04/2013 at 07:35
Welcome to the thumb sucking club La! I've caught my H doing it too, we're all at it in this family!
11/04/2013 at 08:44
WEES about the dangers of early weaning. Good article here: kellymom.com/.../delay-solids
Love seeing all the baby pics, just seems so crazy that they are all big boys and girls now!
P is 16 weeks and is currently in her swing doing her daily explodapoo. Joy! She is a chunky monkey weighing over a stone (her brother will be 3 in July and weighs 2 stone!) and is still EBF. We battled the dreaded 16wk GS last week and she was a nightmare, on form! Her sleep broke, she woke every 2-3 hours at night and was grizzly all day. She is also teething badly (S had his first tooth at 5mo) so I'm expecting a tooth or 4 to pop through soon.
She generally sleeps a good 6 hour stretch between 9pm and 3am, and then wakes once more at 5ish, which is pretty good. I feed her in bed and she feeds efficiently so is asleep again within 15 minutes.
We got her a bumbo this week, so she is sitting in there for a few minutes at a time and loves being upright. She will be sooo much happier when she can sit up unaided!
Generally she is a very happy baby and it feels like we've always had her!
