This could potentially be a 'how long is a piece of string' question, but what size nappies were your little ones in for the first week or so?
I have bought around 100 size ones in a few different brands and 1 pack of size 2 just in case they are a bit of a chunker! Will this be enough and the right size for the first week?

It depends on the size of baby, but C is still in size 1s at 4 weeks. Whereas my nephew was in size 2s at a couple of days old.
Sounds like loads though, don't buy anymore just now until you know how they go. Think they say 8-10 nappies a day for first few days.

i think iv got more size 2s but im meant to be having a bigger baby, but saying that i think size 2s start at around 6lbs ?

M was in size 1s for a few weeks, we had stocked up on the half-price Aldi ones while we had vouchers - before moving up to size 2s because those were the sized nappies we had bought (or been given) from people and didn't want to buy too many as we knew we were going down the cloth route once she hit 10lb. We didn't want to buy too many because at the end of the day, the shops will still be open and H could have popped out and bought us some more as and when they were needed.

You can't really go off the weight guide on the pack as it also depends in build.
B was 8lb 4oz so a decent size baby, but was in size 1 for three months as she has such a skinny bum and legs!
Don't buy too much in one size or one brand as they may not suit your baby. If you want to do it to spread the cost so you're not buying loads while you're on mat leave, it would be better to put a fiver on a gift card/savings card in the supermarket each time you go shopping, then you can use the money to buy the right size and brand when you know what you need

I echo Jellytot re putting money away instead of buying actual nappies.
W was in size 1 for about a week before we had to put him in size 2s. I actually took a load of nappies home from the hospital as they give our nappies on the ward. My parents bought a big box of size 2 nappies for W and we went from there. But W was 10lb4oz and a very long baby, so it was no wonder. (hasn't changed really)

A was 8lb12 at birth but still wore size 1s for the first 7 weeks as he's long rather than round! Then he was in size 2s for just a couple of weeks before shooting up to 3s, where he's stayed since then. I'd wait and see because it's impossible to predict what you'll need beyond the first week or so.

I agree with the consensus to wait and see. A was in size 1 but actually fitted better in Micro (size 0) nappies. All his size 1s leaked and when we tried a Micro on the ward it fitted beautifully. The size guide for a Micro is something like 2-5lb and he was 6lb 12oz at birth but I guess he was skinny! This time round I've bought a pack of Micros and a pack of size 1 (plus I've got newborn cloth nappies ready).

Thank you :)
Might pick up a small pack of micros if bump keeps measuring small and then just take a small selection into hospital!

I figured a small pack of micros is only a few quid anyway... and last time he was leaking with EVERY size 1 until he was bigger... in hindsight we should have gone and got some micros but we were sleep-deprived!

O was 6lb when born but down to 5lb 4oz by the time we left hospital. I found the size 1's ok but realised that boots own brand size 1's were smaller than the norm and these fitted him perfectly for weeks and weeks. We then moved onto the pampers size 1's I had and then up to size 2's which like TT we didn't actually use all that long and he quickly moved up to threes after that.
I know 100 nappies sounds a lot but the first few weeks o had 6 or 7 feeds a day and we changed him at every feed plus of I thought he had poo'd at any point so we could easily use 8 nappies a day (he also often pee'd on the nappy just as I was changing him so that one ended up in the bin! So realistically 100size 1's could be gone in under a fortnight. I wouldn't bother with micro's yet, maybe get some boots size 1's as they're a bit smaller anyway (I loved those nappies).

M was 7lb 3.5oz. She was in size 0 (2-5lb) for a week as the 1's leaked. Then 1's for 6 weeks, then 2's for 6 weeks. Now at 15 weeks she's in 3's. They're huge but the 2'a were too small. She's about 13lb now with decent sized thighs and belly!

Also... We use aldi nappies. We tried most brands! Order of preference is:
Aldi, Asda, pampers, tesco, boots. Sainsburys were awful! I'd buy any of the others if I couldn't get to aldi.
