I finally got on my laptop to update you all, but wanted to show our girl to you all
i went to my consultants appointment on the thursday for my sweep and they actually booked me in for an induction on the friday morning which was my due date, i never told anyone as we didnt want the pressure of everyone txting i went in at 9am and induction started at 3pm, my contractions were two minutes apart by 10:30pm and i started on gas and air, unfortunatly by3pm saturday i was only 1cm dilated, they then said tey were going to take me to the labour ward to break my waters, i went to the toilet and my waters went, there wasn't any gush just a tiny trickle!
we went to the labour ward where my contractions continued to get worse and more frequent, i had pethadine and it made me really "out of it" unfortuneatly even though i had been consultant lead the whole way through on the day not one doctor knew anything about my health issues and my birth plan, i kept being offered a epidural even though i cannot have one, and by midnight saturday i was only 5cm dilated, the docs said i could not have anymore pethadine (i'd had two lots now) and i was begging for a C section (even though i said i didnt want one) but they refused! they then suggested that they could put me onto a morphine machine! the machine was set up and i could press for the drug every 3 minutes as soon as we tried to use it i got about 3 pumps and the machine cut out,,, it was faulty, and everytime we needed to use it we had to find the anethatist who had the key for the machine! who was in theatre! over all it was so badly managed!
the next thing i knew the midwife (who was amazing) said she had to take control of the situation, i was still contracting and all of a sudden with each one my body was pushing! it was a very strage feeling! the midwife opened my legs and said right were getting this baby out! i had now been in labour 28 hours and was shattered! as far as i knew i was only 5cm and the midwife told me i had to start pushing! i felt inside and could feel a squidgy head!
after an hour of pushing our beautiful baby girl came out with her cord wrapped around her neck screaming her head off! she was looking for me straight away and was put skin on skin! she looked straight at me and just stared!!! (that is the moment that makes every hour of labour worth it) i had torn during labour so had to be stitched up so daddy (who was amazing) sat and had some cuddles
the midwife took her off and then said she had to call the doctors as baby had a hole in her back! i was so shocked as i was born with suspected spina bifida and i have one too! the docs came and checked and they said that even though it is deep they can see the bottom of it so that was a good sign, her legs and hips look ok so it is just a case of keeping an eye on it as she grows, also keeping it clean as its right close to her bottom and she gets poopy in it!
Maggie Violet Macey weighed 6lb15oz
she was doing great at first but after 6 hours after birth she started to flag, she was taken to have canulas and a tube put into her stomach as they thought she had an infection, she couldnt feed properly and everything she took in she brought back up, she was taken into special care and put onto a drip and had her stomach emptied, it has been a very emotional and scary week! she finally got discharged on friday and she is just the most wonderful thing i have ever experienced in my life! it really is true what they say that no matter how crappy your labour is that they make you forget everything and are worth every second!
we are having to manage her feeds quite closely and are trying to breast feed but she cannot latch at the moment but hopefull that will progress! she was on 10ml of milk every hour originally and now is on 60-80
