We know a couple that have just had a newborn baby. Does anyone have any suggestions for useful gifts, other than clothes? I'd quite like to get them something a bit different to what I'd normally buy (and to what they are probably receiving a lot of - which I assume is clothes!). Looking to spend around £20-25-30 max.Thanks.

A thermal mug for mum! I did a wee box of practical things for my friend - wipes, nappies, Muslins etc

A friend gave us a little kit think that you do the babies hand and feet prints and it goes in a little photo frame with a pic of the baby. Was a great gift and were planning on doing them this week. By the time I would have thought about that myself and got to the shop to buy one his hands and feet would be much bigger.
SP's suggestions are fab, I've had a number of semi hot cups of tea and we can get through a mass of Muslins/bibs in a day! It's unreal!x

does it have be an actual present. vouchers are really useful. my work's gave me a mothercare voucher for 30£ which we used to buy a bouncy chair.
boots voucher so they can stock up on baby care stuff? If you are wanting to buy an actual gift then I wouldn't go for 'useful' as you don't know what they already have, and instead go for something that you wouldn't necessarily buy yourself like a luxury item- personalised name frame, or personalised blanket etc.

I made a hamper for my sister to give at her baby shower, but rather than clothes I gave things like shampoo, nappy cream, bath thermometer, baby thermometer, useful things she may not have bought yet. Do they maybe need anything like that? or a growbag for bedtime, or maybe swaddling/sling idea.

Maybe a personalised Christmas bauble.
W was born 6th Dec and she got one for her first Christmas and we have got one last year and this year to carry it on.
Books- black and white baby books are good
Lamaze pram toys
The hand/foot print suggestion is good.
A nice blanket. Cath kidson ones are lovely if it's a girl.

The best / favourite things we received have been:
Blanket - M&P do gorgeous ones that can be personalised for about £3
name bunting - ebay
Tomy musical light projector
Book or toy for baby
Cooked meals / cake for us!
I also loved receiving clothes though, it was so nice getting some boys gifts as all our stuff was neutral.
