Does anyone work from home, typing for companies i.e. legal work, book transcriptions etc etc. Or know of any companies that provide this service or even run their own business doing this?
It is something that I am very keen to look into as it will mean that I could cut down my hours to part time and then work from home when L goes to school.

A friend was going to look at legal proof reading - would this be the kind of thing? I think there was a course she was going to do and then set herself up as freelance. Can find out more if you think it would help

Thanks KK. I am about to enroll on a proof reading course anyway. i work as a legal secretary so my typing and experience bodes well for me to do a job like this from home

Poppyseeds, where are you based as may be able to help? At my old firm they sent the typing out and everything was done by digital dictation. Here we do everything in house though

Am based in Surrey. Whilst my firm does in house typing I know that a lot of the regional firms are moving to outsourcing and so I would expect that given your location, it would be very workable. Have done a quick google search for legal dictation outsource se london and quite a bit came up so it may be worth doing the same and contacting the agencies to see what they do and what their rates are etc.
Will have an ask around for you anyway at the next local meet and see if anyone else has more info.
