Any other sufferers? are you on Mettformin? has anyone found weight loss has helped there fertility? I do already have children but would like another one and we are just going through tests with the hospital and I have had my mettformin dosage raised to 1500mg (it was 3000mg when I fell pregnant before) but my periods have disapeared since last October

I have PCOS and I'm on metformin. I'm only on 500mg though as every time I go up to 1000mg the side effects are just too much. I've ;lost just over 2 stone since I started taking it but have nearly 2 stone still to lose and my weight's levelled off now so dr says i really need to increase it and has prescribed the higher dose going forward.
In 2011 my periods disappeared, my last one was 23rd December 2010, I started Metformin in August after pleading with my gp for it and my periods restarted in October as my weight started to come down.
I still havent fallen pregnant but at least having cycles is a positive

the side affects are horrible aren't they! I have the slow release version which I find easier, but it has taken me two months to gradually increase my dosage.
Great news about your periods returning, so there is hope! how have you lost weight?

Literally just the metformin. I have been told I need to change my diet as I'm not eating enough but can't seem to physically make myself eat more. I had tried pretty much every diet going to lose weight and i exercise regularly but just never seemed to lose even 1lb. Then I started the metformin and it just fell off. It took about a month before the side effects subsided but they are so much worse when I up the dose than they were when I first started taking them. Good luck!

I don't have PCOS but did struggle to conceive and losing weight was the single most effective thing for my cycles. When I lost maybe 7lbs at least I had my first 'normal' cycle in a year and then I conceived although miscarried. I put weight back on after the D&C and then again lost weight a few months later which resulted in another BFP combined with Clomid. Lost that pregnancy and had some chemical ones in between and went on a really serious weight loss mission with exercise and again conceived and finally now 31 weeks. I think it's too much coincidence that in the 2 years I was ttc'ing for the only time I'd conceive was after losing weight and being on a health kick. Good luck x
