O is 3 and we've had two attempts at potty training - once at the end of August (he had too many accidents) and in the October half-term (O refused to go near the toilet). I think the main issue is that he isn't aware he's done a wee or a poo and seems quite happy to have a dirty nappy. Has any one experienced this and how did you overcome it?

We pt'ed A a couple of months ago - he was well over 3.5 years. When they are in nappies they aren't really aware of doing wee's especially as the nappy soaks it all away very quickly. we just took his nappy off - lots of accidents in the first couple of days then a couple over the next 3 days and since then he has been fine. i was ready to give up after the first day but people advised me to give a it few days as it takes a while for them to get used to the sensation of needing to go to the toliet etc

Thanks GF, that's reassuring. I'll have to try that when we have our next attempt at it.

I'm considering putting him in cloth nappies for a bit, I need to make sure I have enough.
