A is 27 months old. Started potty training on Wednesday and thought we were doing really well, 6 accidents day 1 and 3 on day 2. She had her first attempt at a poo on the potty last night and totally freaked out! I was a bit suprised as she had been asking to see her poo when changing her nappy for a while now. So this morning we've had there hits and three misses but everytime she's gone to use the potty she's talked about how she's not going to do a poo! I have reassured her until I am blue in the face and don't know what else to do. Just feel we have gone back a stage today. Anyone else been through similar? Any tips? TIA x

Not personally but lots of girls seem to have issues doing it! But everyone I know has got through it eventually.

Oh yes, we had this and it's very common.
After a couple of weeks of poo in pants, I started watching him when I thought he was due a poo and quickly sticking him on the potty and keeping him there until he did the poo. After a few days of that - he cracked it (pardon the pun).
I've heard that lining the potty with a nappy helps. If she's sitting on the potty to wee and you know she needs a poo, getting her to sing or blow bubbles can get her to loosen up so the poo comes.

Thanks ladies. All the friends I've spoken to havent experienced this so I'm glad to be reassured its not that unusual. She had hysterics yesterday and pooed in her knickers, she was completely beside herself but tried reassuring her. Hopefully today won't be as scary for her. Nixxy that's a fab tip about lining the potty with a nappy, think ill be trying that. She doesn't seem scared of using the potty this morning which is a huge step forward from

Good luck, it really will just pass in time (again, no pun intended!)

Erin was very much the same - we struggled with poos more than wees, she just hated doing it in the potty! We just used to do as you are, lots of positive encouragement and encouraged her to come to the bathroom with h and I to see that everyone did it! (No privacy at all now). She's doing fab!
