I know this is done to death but I am going round in circles and can't decide.
So, this will be baby no 2. We had a Britax Vigour for Miss CV and it was fine. I wouldnt choose it again but it did its job completely acceptably, we didnt ever feel the need to change it for a stroller, and it would have done for no 2 except the footrest is broken and one side of the clasp is too.
So, what now? The frame is great as is the carseat. Do I buy the carrycot for the first few months (£100 approx) and then something more lightweight for after (say £200 max) or start from scratch? If I go for option no 1, will there be a period where the baby is too big for the carrycot but not quite ready for a forward facing 'stroller'?
Re starting from scratch, the Britax carseat doesnt seem to be compatible with too many other frames unfortunately. I can imagine we'll use the carseat/frame quite a bit as Miss CV will be starting nursery as baby is due but has only got an afternoon place at a nursery which isnt walkable - so we'll be in and out of the car a minimum of twice every day, and conceivably more if I try to do anything with Miss CV in the mornings or after nursery.
But on the other hand, I also think we'll use a pram / buggy even more than we did with Miss CV - we took her for 'walks' a fair but but now we have her, we're always out at the weekend so baby will be coming along to parks and to play, so comfort and ease of use are even more important.
Money is an issue, and the approx £300 I mentioned is probably our top budget and I'd love to spend less! I'm not a snob about 2nd hand and have been keeping an eye out, but tried an NCT sale last week and a nearly new shop on Saturday there and was quite shocked at what was on offer - I have thrown away stuff that was in better nick than both these places had for sale. It's made me worried my standards are higher than some and too embarrassed to try gumtree for fear of turning up at someone's house and being confronted with a filthy piece of junk!

I have exactly the same issue with 2nd hand, and when you think about how much a pram is used, the likelihood of it being in excellent condition are low - though I have seen another MDers who's was - so it's perhaps worth a good look - seeing lots of pics first maybe?
Can you, start from scratch, and use the carseat on the old frame for the inbetween the carrycot and seat stage, if you already have them? I know it means finding storage though.. I've not seen the pram, but with ours my long 18week still had a fair bit of space in her carrycot, and it'll do us at least another 6 weeks when she'll be 5.5months so i'll consider the seat unit. Do you use a sling? Could that be an option for the nursery run? Though I know awkward if baby sleeps. TBH now E is 18 weeks if I am popping somewhere, as quick as from the car to do a nursery drop, i'd carry her - I do this for baby weigh in and for a nip to the cash machine/to the corner shop for milk - depends on the weather of course too though, so this may not be suitable.

Have a look at the Phil & Teds Smart buggy. They do a carry cot too. You'd get all that for £300. We had the buggy bit for M and still use now at four if she refuses to walk somewhere.

Thanks for the replies all.
LM - Ah, a sling - yes, I tried a Connecta with Miss CV but didnt really embrace it and sold it when i thought there wouldnt be any more. But life will be different when this baby comes so I have been looking out for Close carriers on Ebay.
Rusty - will check that out, ta.
Jelly Baby - one of the new Britax models is well within budget and gets mostly wonderful reviews *except* that it's very awkward to sit in at the toddler stage - great for babies and older children but rubbish for toddlers - people have posted pics and the children and so slumped that it's actually quite shocking.
I am sure I will get there in the end, but just sick thinking about it.

I have the Graco Evo- don't need a separate carry cot a has a lie flat option suitable from birth. It quite reasonable although with the carseat would be slightly over £300. I don't envisage needed a stroller later on as this should be suitable- I think it's only available fromMothercare but worth a look IMO

My oyster has a brittax car seat - not sure if that is an option but I'm sure I've seen then on offer somewhere for £275. We moved H from carrycot at 3 months and he's fine in stroller part. Car seat just clips in. Price of this pram gets pushed up by colour packs but I think it looks good in black so you could save money and not get colour. Supposed to do to toddler and is q light
