    Hi,

I was wondering if any of you ladies can help me. I have just been to my 36 week appointment with my midwife to find my bp was 130/84 which she is a little bit concerned about as it's 'borderline' I've also got quite bad swelling in my feet, ankles & a little bit on my fingers. She has advised me to leave work asap (which I already have) & rest. She also wants to see me back next week so she can keep an eye on it, which is a good thing.

I just want to know if it gets worse what will happen? Will they induce me as I'll be 37 weeks next week? My midwife didn't really say much just that she wanted to keep a close eye on me & if I get sore head or become dizzy to take myself off to hospital.

Hi Jayne. Sorry to hear things aren't great. Was your urine okay as protein in it can be another sign of pre-eclampsia? If they do diagnose you with it the only way they can stop it is by delivering the baby. Hopefully someone else has more specific info / experience.

no got it ok thanks kayecee. at my 32 week appointment there was a trace of protein(which I've had at most tests) But haven't had any protein at all at my 34 or today at 36 week appointment.

That's good then. Hopefully your BP was just a bit of an anamoly and will be okay next week - like you say - it's good that they're keeping such a close eye on you x

Aw hun I could've written this post! I went to the GP yesterday with a constant headache and my BP has been slooowly rising lately..it was 'borderline' again yesterday and she's taken bloods etc. to test for pre-eclampsia. From what I know they just keep a very close eye on you and I read that it's 'rare' to be induced unless it worsens. Maybe worth checking with your midwife?

Hi there!! I had borderline blood pressure from 36 weeks, they checked it every 2 days between 37 and 38 weeks and between my bloods, urine and bp they admitted me to hospital at 38 weeks exactly. They kept me in for a week with 4 hourly checks on bp and tracing on the baby and just generally kept an eye on during the day. The level of urates they were looking at in my blood went a bit higher each day so they induced at 39 weeks, and i now have a lovely 6 month old baby boy!! Hopefully yours wont be high enough for all that but even if it is, it wasn't too bad to be taken care of for a while!!

    Any questions, fire away!!

Hi Jayne, I'm g/c from baby but I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia at 38+5. I had three +'s of protein in my urine so was quite a severe case i think. They kept me in hospital and I was given medication to try and lower my blood pressure. That kept it under control but they wouldn't let me go home. They gave me the option of waiting it out to see if I went into labour naturally (but I'd have to stay in hospital) or being induced. I couldn't face being in hospital for potentially another 3 weeks so I opted to be induced. It wasn't at all bad though and one bonus with having pre-eclampsia is that you labour really quickly! Your blood pressure doesn't sound too bad to me. Mine went up to 180/117 at one point though-hehe!! I expect they'll just monitor your blood pressure more regularly and if you do develop pre-eclampsia, once you reach 37 weeks may give you the option of being induced. Hope this helps

Hi hun, I am not a mw but please dont worry. I work with the medical side of things and that doesnt seem too high! i have just checked on the NHS site too and mildly high blood pressure in pregnancy is classed as 140/90 or higher and yours is well below that. maybe mw is just being cautious! x
