So I know this is an old wives tale but I quite like them and think they are a bit of fun! It is said that if you crave sweet things in pregnancy (cake, chocolate) then you are likely to have a girl and if it's salty, savoury snacks (crisps, nuts) then it's likely to be a boy.
For those of you who had cravings in pregnancy and now have your baby or know the gender from a scan, was this the case for you??

all times iv craved the smell of lavender dettol
i heard that its certain smellss with boys and out of our postnatal group with L 4 had boys and 3 of us loved smells (mine was dettol, someone elses was alcohol hand gel and someone elses was washing up liquid)

I had the same craving with each pregnancy - KFC and pickled beetroot. I had 2 boys.

Waaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh CP and her dettol!!! Our tri threads were full of stories of her stocking up on it!!
I wanted savory and fruit with P and she was obviously a girl. I have wanted the same type of food this time, down to my grapefruit obsession. So we'll see!!

I was savoury like mad with my first son = crisps, pastry, toast etc.
had all these again with my twins plus chocolate and ice cream (I never normally have a sweet tooth) and had one of each!
so I guess it holds true for me!!
Bizzarly both my boys have a sweet tooth and my girl is much more savoury oriented!
I craved lemon sherbets, but couldn't find them anywhere! C was a boy.

Well I'm just eating some cheese straws soon to be followed by kitkat, hope its not twins lol
I've definitely been craving sweet stuff this time, gallons of vimto at least one chocolate mousse a day and we have a gender scan on Saturday so it'll be interesting to see whether it rings true!

I didn't really crave things as such but did pig out a little on both sweet and savory... but chocolate and sweet things didn't sit well with me (i ate them anyway!). i had a boy, so i suppose that fits!
Also, can't believe you're second tri already!! :-) are you going to find out the sex?

I haven't had any cravings, really. I'm missing out!

I'm not a pudding/dessert person normally but during pregnancy I developed a sweet tooth... I had a boy!!
09/09/2013 at 12:57
I craved lots of sweet things and had a boy. However, I do generally have a sweet tooth and think that my cravings were probably an excuse for me to indulge in thinks I usually try to avoid to maintain my weight!

Not sure PW! I've gone off many sweet things and am all over toast and crisps hence my wondering about this! Everyone in my work is convinced I'm having a boy! It's v interesting to find out what everyone else experienced!
Sange - it will come!!!

what if you crave both?
I cant stop eating junk basicaly, crisps, chocolate, marshmallows!
09/09/2013 at 14:18
I agree with you that it doesn't mean anything but I have craved savoury/salty with both mine and they are both boys.
09/09/2013 at 14:22
I keep eating junk too mrs bass, proper food not at all fussed by!
09/09/2013 at 14:27
I eat most junk food, happily, until about 10 minutes later when I feel dreadful.
But absolutely 100% savoury is the key. Last time (boy) and this time. Ooh I'd be delighted if my eating party packs of kettle chips and whole packs of malted milk biccies meant a boy. I have a name for a boy ha ha ha!!!

Went off savoury things which was unusual but loved cake....I had a boy.
09/09/2013 at 15:46
My actual proper craving with all three was ice cubes but other than that I definitely had leanings towards particular foods for them and with the two boys it was salty food, I ate tons of poppadoms because they were dry and salty, and loads of salt and vinegar crisps and McDonald's. With E I wanted loads of sweet stuff, cakes and waffles, honey, chocolate spread out of the jar. I'm not normally a sweet person with those kinds of things so it was a bit weird!

I didn't have really strong cravings, but I did go off chocolate (unheard of!) and ate a lot of crackers and cheese. I have a boy, so for me its true

me neither, i fancy fruit every now and then but that is my body trying to counter balance all the rubish!
