P has suddenly started pulling away during bfing and it really hurts. She pulls her head back still latched on and moves her head from side to side. Sometimes she comes off and goes on again and does the same thing then cries. Is this a supply issue?? She is making me really sore.....

It's probably that she's more alert and so hearing noises etc and having a good look round iykwim. Both mine did this

It really hurts!! Hadnt thought of that CP. She is quite aggresive when she does it like she is frustrated! Thought i might try and get to a bf group this week.

S is currently doing this with much sound effect! It kills!

H did that and still does although not as much. Really hurts! I think it's when things catch there attention or they realise they can move their head!

P does this too but I don't think hers is distraction, it's like she's frustrated that it's either wind stopping her feeding or thats it's not coming out quick enough?
I went to a BF group last week and there were about 8 of us and everyone was having similar issues with this! I found the group really good even though I don't seem to have an answer or cure for it yet!

Well at least i know i am not alone and a lot of the other MD babies around the same age are doing it too! I wondered if it might be a growth spurt or sonething so they want more milk but the supply hasnt caught up yet.

we have the same thing here as well. i;m also going to try to get to breast feeding group this week as it is accompanied by a slurping noise which i am concerned about

I wasn't sure about going to a bf group but my HV told me to come along after baby clinic about my worries and it was really helpful. Also nice to meet other mums who seemed to have all experienced the same worries too. definitely give it a go if there's one local .

I'm So glad I'm not the only one that this happens to! W does this to me and I thought it might be a supply issue as he pulls away from me still clamped on! It's bloody agony too! And it comes with sound effects too. It's worse when he's choking but still wont let go!

Went to a La Leche meeting this morning and had an interesting chat about this. She thinks i might have too fast a let down and P is getting loads of foremilk and is getting overwhelmed as its coming out so fast. She then comes off and goes on frequently, eventually comes off full but as its mainly foremilk she is hungry again an hour later (which is happening). She has suggested feeding from one side only for a while to see if anything changes.

That's interesting. I've been feeding W from the one side for a while and he still does this to me.

Babies do this during growth spurts - it increases the amount that is produced.
If you think they are getting distracted as well you can try feeding with a muslin over the baby's head to minimise the amount of distraction.
FF babies also do a similar thing with the teat of the bottle when the milk is no longer coming out fast enough for them. With FF babies you get a bigger size hole in the teat. With BF babies your body has to produce more milk.

It seems to have stopped at the moment which is good!! Its hard to tell if P is any more settled as she had her jabs today so is sleeping a lot. She does seem to be going 3 hours between feeds though instead of her usual 2.....
