Just after a little advice really. I work for the police and my job involves a lot of foot patrol so I'm walking around a lot of the day wearing heavy body armour and dealing with members of the public.
I was at work this week after finding out I was pregnant last weekend and a couple of people asked me if I'm OK as I've been a bit quieter than usual. Admittedly I was exhausted yesterday after having a really bad nights sleep the night before but Ive just got so much on my mind at the moment, mostly excitement that I'm having to keep under wraps. I'm in a bit of a dilemma as to whether or not I should mention my pregnancy to work yet just because I'm at such an early stage.
We haven't even told our families yet so it feels a bit wrong that work might know first.
Do you think I should tell work yet and go onto light duties?
This is my first pregnancy so any advice would be appreciated.

You don't legally have to tell them until 25wks into term. This said, it may be prudent to tell them sooner rather than later as they then have a duty of care to risk assess your role & make any necessary adjustment to it.

i work for the police too. I told them at 7 weeks after being assaulted twice in 2 weeks. It's not worth the risk.
I don't do foot patrol as I am responce but get sent to fights an awful lot! It's not just the fights it the bodily fluids we come into contact with. It's not worth the risk, put yourself and the baby first.

Its completely up to you how early you tell. I personally will tell family and close friends early as God forbid anything does go wrong their support would be invaluable.
I am not in the police force but I do work with members of the public often alone in closed spaces and anyone of them could turn out to be a monster without warning. my job also involves lifting objects at times, So I would tell my company quite early

Thanks for all the advice Ladies.
Louisenewal, you're right it's not worth the risk. We'll tell our families this week and then I think I'll speak to my supervisor some time later this week.
Good luck to you all x
