When did your LO's start using a sippy cup and did you use them just for water or for milk feeds too? I'm a bit confused...

J started using one when we started weaning for water and then he gradually started drinking milk out of them from about a year

Isla started using one from 6 months when we started weaning. Just for water. It took her about a month to get the hang of it instead of it all dribbling down her chin. We've tried cups for milk but she didn't take to it. Now she only has a nighttime bottle of milk before bed anyway so I'm not too fussed that she won't drink it from a cup .

We use one for water during the day and have done since 6 months. He doesn't really drink from it himself, more I hold it to his mouth. He likes to hold it, but only to bang on the higchair tray. :-(

Thank you, that's pretty much what I thought. E is 8 months this week and doesn't drink an awful lot of water, just doesn't seem to want it. Then today at clinic i picked up a leaflet on dental health and was a bit confused by it, the way i read it was all liquids from 6 months should be from a feeder cup but i though the'd be an awful mess of he was having his milk from it! Maybe i read it wrong?

They should be off bottles by 12 months as it can contribute to tooth decay. It may be referring to the fact that they shouldn't really have a valved cup, it should be free-flow as thst can cause dental problems too
