For the past few nights, O has been waking up crying and whimpering. I would go through and reassure him and get him back to sleep but it occurs so frequently that H went and slept in the room with him. He's 2 yrs 4 months.
Is there anything we can do to help O? He has a groclock as a nightlight in his room, but there's a small wall light that I could turn on for him.

Could it be night terrors? Is he fully awake when cries or is he still asleep? J use to have night terrors and he just grew out of it eventually.

Sometimes he's still asleep whilst crying, other times he's sat up in bed.

If he's not really responsive properly it could be night terrors. If you talk to him and he's not really looking or responding as normal then he's not really awake properly - even if sat up in bed. I found with my daughter the best thing was just to calm her without trying to talk to her and she'd eventually go back to sleep again.
However at about that age my daughter did used to wake up and she was awake - so we used to co-sleep with her. It lasted a few nights, then went back to normal.
