I was just wondering is it ok to sleep on your tummy in pregnancy? I am just so comfortable when on my tummy and as I am still early on I keep forgetting that there is a precious bundle in my tummy

I'm the same! Love sleeping on my front and keep finding that I turn to lay on my belly in the night!

Unless it makes you feel uncomfortable then I can't see any problem at this early stage. Our beanies are very small and buried deep inside right now!

Very early it doesn't really matter but once you start to show that means your uterus is coming up and out of your pelvis (where it is in the early stages hidden in the bones) you shouldn't as you are then lying directly on your baby. I bought a long pregnancy cushion from Mothercare (about ??30) and it is fab. I can lie on my side and almost on to my tummy as I can lean my bump into it. It is essential in the latter stages for comfort and sleep as when you get to the third trimester you will be very uncomfortable. You will never get on your tummy and you can't breathe on your back!

its ok until your uterus pops up out of your pelvis at about 12 weeks, also as you get bigger you not suppose to sleep on your back either, not a lot of choice!

Generally have found it ok during first trimester but certainly by 13wks you should be aiming to sleep on your side (not always easy). Sleeping on your front after 2nd trimester places your weight on to your precious bundle & sleeping on your back places their weight onto your main blood vessels restricting blood flow and oxygen. Try using a back support pillow (the v-shaped ones) cuddling upto it resting one leg over, it may ease discomfort.

You will know yourself when it's time to stop lying on your front. I used to sleep on my front every night to get to sleep - I'm 26 weeks now and from about 11 weeks it became uncomfortable, as I could feel something digging in. I've had to adjust to sleeping on my back, which is now uncomfortable because of the extra pressure and so it's now on to my side

If you're less than 12 weeks pregnant then your little one is still really low down tucked under your pubic bone and so it won't make any difference. It's when your uterus starts to rise above this that I found it became uncomfortable.

I'm 21 weeks and have still been sleeping on my tummy. I try to sleep on my side but can't really get comfy so I kind of end up somewhere in between my side and tummy! x

I really miss sleeping on my tummy. You are supposed to try and sleep on your left side. I go between the two sides all night although most times I wake up on my back. I tend to get kicked when I sleep on my right hand side. Don't think the baby likes that side lol.

I'm with Kel, am nearly 21 weeks and still sleeping on my tummy, kind of with one leg up and out to the side if that makes sense, to relieve pressure on bump. I did this all the way through my last pregnancy too (until 41+3!!) Midwife said it was fine as baby's cushioned and possibly helped him get into a good position as well.

I didn't find it uncomfortable last time but bump seems more 'outwards' IYKWIM this time so think it may be time to invest in a pillow.

Good luck with your pregnancy x
