I've been a smoker for about 6 years and now that I am pregnant I went from smoking a pack a day (horrible, I know) to now at 7 weeks pregnant only smoking about 3 cigarettes a day. I am giving it my all to quit but feel so guilty and thinking if I do have a miscarriage that will be the reason why.
I do hear stories about people saying they smoked their entire pregnancy and everything was fine, healthy babies (not that I intend on smoking my entire pregnancy, I plan on breastfeeding)
I just want to know if I am overly freaking out!

Hey I'm 24 weeks and still smoke around 3-5 I tried my hardest giving up then kept having the odd one...I felt that guilty I rang my midwife in tears...she had a meeting with me and said while it is best you stop as long as it's not like 20 a day and your actin cutting down then not to stress over it too much as that in itself can have an affect on the baby. It's so hard to stop I've smoked I've smoked for 9 years and used to smoke loss now like I said 3 a day five at the most sometimes I only have the one. Try not to worry too much about it hun. xxx

My best friend smoked during her whole pregnancy odd few a day and no problems with her little girl.
Infact they say if you try to quit right away whilst pregnant it could cause miscarriage if you were a heavy smoker before, but taking it a step at a time and reducing the fags slowly each week is the safest way for you and baby, you got nothing to worry about, sounds like you did it the right way xx

It's so bloody tough to stop smoking, i really get it. But girls, this is the best reason to quit ever. Try and do it for you and your baby. There's not ever gonna be a better motivator than this. And you know what, if you need support and encouragement, you've got it right here! Why not post and tell us everyday how you're doing - we can cheer you, post virtual flowers and pats on the back! You can do it!!!!

If you care more about your babys health then stopping smoking shouldnt be a problem, its all down to will power. Smoking is more harmful to an unborn baby than alcohol is as it affects the oxygen going to your baby. I was a smoker myself for years, had an unplanned pregnancy and reluctantly stopped smoking for the sake of my baby. It was hard at the begining but after 3 months it didnt bother me.
i have suffered 2 miscarriages and a still birth despite doing everything right so it really upsets me when i hear of/see people smoking while pregnant. that baby you have growing inside you is too precious to take such a risk. Just because x y and z smoked while pregnant and their kids were fine doesnt mean your garynteed the same luck. i still blame myself for my still birth even although i did everything right. I hope you find the courage and will power to stop
