S seems to have a good latch and has fed a lot since day one. My milk came in today but my nipples are killing me! I've been topping him up with formula as he's such a big boy. I'm using lansinoh and currently expressing. Do shields work? I've tried some but I think they were too big.
Any other tips?

Sore nipples suck big time. Has he got tongue-tie? Try a different make of shield as well as they having differing sizes. I hope you manage to get something sorted very soon xx

Cold compress to numb the nipple before you start feeding?
Use breast milk to cover your nipples might help healing.
Feed from the less ouchy side first (if there is one worse than the other).
I can do a Boots run tomorrow for nipple shields if you need me too xx

Lansinoh and nipple shields were my saviours. Also rubbed a little breastmilk into them which certainly didn't do any harm

Lansinoh and the 'fuc* fuc* shi* fuc*' song are all that got me through.
Nips need to toughen up so as long as you're certain of no TT and that the latch is right then my advice is to feed through the pain, if you do feed through it you'll find that, in a couple of days, they will be more hardened and it'll hurt so much less. Using shields won't allow them to toughen up IYSWIM and it'll prolong the issue.
It's normal for it to hurt in a toe curling fashion when they latch on as long as the pain only lasts for a few seconds, if it continues all feed then you need to check latch.
Try the rugby ball hold - I found it was more comfy on my nips.

I use shields as still waiting to get TT sorted. I tried a couple of brands, the best are medela and I use the small 16mm ones which still look scarily big to me!

I think you need to get the latch checked, it might just need tweaking a but or maybe he has TT.
Can you try rugby ball hold or lying down to feed, also let him latch on rather than guiding him to the nipple xx

I fed through the agonising toe-curling pain and it did get better after about day 5. Lansinoh helped. Hope they feel better soon x

Meant to say, just a small amount of Vaseline or lasinoh because they can slide of and cause more trauma xx

Thanks ladies. Will speak to mw today about seeing a bf counsellor to check latch. It hasn't always hurt so I'm hoping it's not that. Fed him both sides this morning and it did feel a little better. If I know it'll get better I'll persevere without shields
