B is 9 weeks old and for the last few days her left eye is a little bit gummy and sticky. I've been googling it and itlooks like a blocked tear duct that should clear up on its own, has anyone else had this? any tips for clearing it quicker?

Breast Milk is brilliant for eye infections. Otherwise wipe with cooled boiled water.

Yep, breast milk works a treat - you have to squirt it in every couple of hours. If it doesn't clear up after a few days it's worth a trip to the docs (R had a sticky eye for the first couple of weeks and the docs swabbed it and it tested positive for MRSA so we had to use antibiotic drops. Luckily it cleared up quickly).

Isla had a sticky eye for the first 4/5 months of her life I used breast milk on it but it didn't really clear it any quicker. As you say it's a blocked duct and will clear in its own time. The HV said they would start to investigate a bit more if she still had it at around 9-12 months.

Thanks ladies. With the breast milk do you put it on cotton wool or something?
