Now that O is 6 months I've decided to stop BFing - how slowly do I need to reduce the feeds and how long will it take for my milk to dry up? I've not fed him since 1pm so will feed him tonight as I'm about to burst but is it too drastic to drop down to only 2/3 feeds straight away?

I did it the wrong way and went cold turkey- it took about 2-3 weeks for my milk to go completely (the first 4 days were not fun!)

I would drop a feed a day initially then keep doing one for a few more days. I won't lie, it hurt when I stopped last time and I was mix feeding from a month in anyway! If you get really full just hand express a little bit in the bath

My son is 7 months and I decided to stop at 6 months too. The way I did it was to set a cut-off time each day, so for a few days I wouldn't feed him after 5pm until bedtime, then after 3, then 1 and so on. It seemed to work well and it wasn't painful, although I still feed him if he wakes at night, so I haven't stopped totally yet!

P was on 3 feeds a day by 6 months and we swapped the daytime one first, which didn't go particularly well! Took another month before she'd take a bottle. We then dropped the first and last feed within a week as it was easier to be an all or nothing thing with the bottle. The first 3-4 days were very painful but then it was fine. Took awhile for the milk to go completely though...maybe another month or so.

When I stopped expressing I cut one feed out a day over two weeks, it was still painful but didnt get too engorged. Took over a month for it to dry up completely. Try cabbage leaves in your bra as this is supposed to help with engorgement

Similar to Bailey, I dropped one feed every 2 weeks so it took my a looong while to stop entirely. I kep night feeds longest as it was so much easier than dealing with a bottle multiple times at night so there was about a month when I was just feeding at night. Worked for us fine and I didn't really get that engorged although did leak a lot when I dropped the first 2 feeds but after that it all calmed down x

I went from expressing 8 times a day to 6, then 4 then 2 and stopped.
