Well, I hate to say it, but I think if you are going to get them there is little you can do. With #1 I used litres of bio oil. I had the start of 1small stretch mark and that was it. Until 2/3 days after my son was born and then there were loads! I felt so cheated, but apparently it happens. After a while they faded to white tiger stripes. Now I am on #2 they are all more visible again, but probably the old ones and not new (I hope!). TBH, I've got off quite lightly compared to some (some horrors out there on google). I had them on my legs/hips and 1 randomly on my knee (?) from my teen years, so I guess I was predisposed to having them, hence why I got them whilst pregnant.

Creams and oils will do nothing, apart from make your skin soft.
If you are going to get them, you will, no matter what lotions and potions you use.

Another one who didn't get any until afterwards! Gutted.
Agreed that no cream or oil is going to prevent them, I read somewhere it is genetic?

It is genetic, to do with the collagen in your skin. That's why some get them terribly and others nothing. I used Palmers stuff as my skin and boobs were very itchy and just to mosturise. I had none at all and thought I'd got away with it but found after having him there were a few hidden under the bump! They faded very quickly though x

I agree with above. My mum, sister and I have hardly anything. I have two little marks on my left thigh and a couple on my boobs (from BFing!) I used oil all the time with my first and hardly at all with my second. My SIL used creams daily with both of hers and her tummy is absolutely covered in them. I think if it happens, it happens. Think of them as reminders of the amazing thing your body did if you do get them!!

Thank you ladies! I have heard its genetic and am hoping so as mum and sister have 2 between them! Fingers crossed.x

Ive got hundreds. Probably one of the 'horrors' you mentioned IDC but hey ho it's the price you pay :-)

But as long as you and baby are ok CK I guess it is a Very small price :0) x

I have too much of a jelly belly to wear bikinis anyway so wouldnt be flashing anyway so they dont bother me but I do understand why they do to some xx

I've got quite a lot- tummy, inside thighs and down the front of my shins. My legs were very swollen at the end if my first pregnancy and they all appeared afterwards. I agree if you're going to get them you will regardless.

I have tonnes - don't recommend a twin pregnancy if you ever want to wear a bikini ever again! I have also lost all sensation in my tummy where they are - trapped some of the skin on my tummy in a zip the other day and it didn't even hurt. sob. Unfortunately, if you are going to get them you'll get them.

I have been using bio oil as it did wonders with a scar that goes from my hips along my bikini line, you can barely see it now. I massaged the oil into my scar for about a year after surgery. I'm going to try using it on any stretch marks I get, not too concerned if it doesn't work as long as baby's healthy but might as well try it. I got mine off ebay a lot cheaper than boots!!

I don't think it will particularly help with stretch marks to use cream or oils as others have already said, but I have been anyway. Whether it helps or not I'm quite enjoying a little time spent before bed rubbing my bump :)

I'm afraid it's largely luck! I had none last time although he was early I was still big. This time had a couple on hip at about 38 weeks with my whopper baby but then they appeared a fortnight after he arrived!
Moisturise now to keep skin as supple as possible but it may not help!
28/07/2013 at 23:15
I'm probably one of those google horrors. My skin is practically purple. I moisturised all the time with no 1. Pointless! My tummy is like a road map!

I'm probably going to jinx myself here..
My boobs are covered in them from my first pregnancy, so I'm clearly prone to them but I managed to avoid any on my bump last time. So far I've no new ones on my boobs and none on my bump. I am religiously oiling bump and boobs every day though, my theory being the worst it'll do is nothing.

When I was in hospital after EMCS I was talking to a Dr. (?) and said I'd used bio oil etc and she said that anything will do and that it's the actual rubbing that stimulates the cells and can help breakdown scars etc. I suppose like dry brushing and cellulite? No idea. I've been terrible about not moisturising this time. I figure it's all too late and that as this is last baby ever, I will sort my body out afterwards. Now where did I put that pack of donuts....?
