When did you first take your little one?
what did they wear? I have seen happy nappies? Do they need a swim jacket too?

We first took Isla when she was 10 weeks. She wore a disposable swim nappy and a costume. Don't think local pools require a happy nappy the are mainly for lessons I think. If you take LO to a hydrotherapy pool/beginners pool that should be warm enough not to wear a swim jacket but if taking them in the main pool they will need one. Take a towel pool side for LO so you can wrap them up straight away. Have fun x

first time - 4 months old. That's when the lessons started!

Zoe started at 11 weeks but it was in a hydrotherapy pool so no need for wetsuits etc. She wore a disposable swim nappy (which as long as it isn't pooed in can just be rinsed out, dried and reused. Normally get about 4/5 wears out of them) and a little swimming costume with a built in swim nappy (I love Jojo maman bebe ones).
Top tip, swim nappies don't hold in wee. Don't get your child ready before you go thinking this will save you time. Learned from experience !

12 weeks, we wear a swim nappy, happy nappy and swim wrap. H gets cold in the water as its just a normal pool so we prefer the wrap as well. H is skinny though so not a lot of fat to keep him warm!
We started with lessons and H loves them, totally worth the money.
Love the tip JB - we have to be at the poolside for lessons 5mins before, and I keep thinking, gosh, i'm going to get covered in wee!
We took E for the first time in Tenerife, it was really hot so she just wore a UV Suit and she was 15 weeks. I was told that she'd be fine in just nappy and UV suit in our local pool, which I think is 20-odd for 20-30mins but wouldn't be suitable for any longer even with a wrap.
At swim class, which starts at 5months, E wears just the UV Suit now and disposable swim nappy, and most of the others wear just trunks or a proper costume! I still think it's a bit chilly though, would say it's 25ish degrees, and our lessons are restricted to 30mins.

We took I for the 1st time when she was 5 weeks old to a public pool & she wore a swim nappy with a swimming costume. I'm glad I didn't change her before we went as she wanted a feed then promptly filed her nappy. Then fed again & fell asleep! Still took her in though (after I'd changed her nappy!!), she then started lessons when she was 10 weeks & has loved it ever since. It's recommended to wait until your bleeding has stopped before going swimming but other than that whenever you want to. No need to wait for any injections (although it's not recommended to go straight after having injections)

We started lessons as 9 weeks and A wore a disposable swim nappy and a Happy Nappy (requirement of Waterbabies). He didn't enjoy the first week and seemed cold so we got a wetsuit for the following week and he was much better. He's also much easier to hold on to with it on!!
We have the jojomaman baby wetsuit in 0-3 months that we will be selling in the next week or so once I've ordered the next size up if you are interested.
