Did you have one with your next baby? Our second is due in 3 weeks and I had an epidural last time. Mainly out of fear and panic I think. I am hoping I will feel more in control this time round and would like to try the pool, but am not ruling any type of pain relief out, hoping to just go with the flow!
How did others get on second time round?

I had an epidural the first time because my waters had broken but my labour had failed to get going so I was induced and it took hours and hours and hours and hours.
The second time my labour started at around 10-10.30pm ish, I went to hospital at 1am ish and had the baby had 3.20. I used gas and air at the end but otherwise just breathing. I did feel more in control the second time

I had an epidural the first time. Mainly because I was exhausted - pains started Thursday 9am at 2cm, waters we t Friday night 11pm and she arrived 4pm on Saturday after 2 hrs pushing.
With L I had no pain relief at all. I'm hoping for the same again or gas and the pool this time.

I had a failed epidural first time around which was rather annoying, second time around I just used a Tens machine. I felt so much more in control and knew what to expect and just went with the flow.

I had an epidural 1st time which in retrospect was at too late a stage. 2nd time I asked for one before as soon as I was admitted. I'd had the experience of being in agony, waiting for the anaesthetist to come and then for it to work. (I wasn't allowed the pool and had to have constant monitoring so other options of natural pain relief were limited) 2nd time I wasn't prepared to get to that stage and it was a good thing as I ended up with a forceps delivery and very close to a emergency C-section. There's no way I could have coped, but I didn't even chance it. However, had S not been back to back, I may have managed for longer as the contractions weren't as painful as soon in my 2nd labour and I prob wouldn't have needed forceps either. Just see how you feel at the time and go with what you feel you need.

I had one with my 1st. Had been in labour for 24 hours plus and then contractions slowed right down so had one at 9cm and went on drip for a few hours. Had used tens and been in pool. 2nd time labour was much quicker and used tens and pool again. Definitely felt calmer and more in control, probably as wasn't so exhausted. Delivered in pool on g and a.

Sorry, only just come back to this. As the time draws nearer, I can feel I'm going to get myself into a bit of a panic again and feel like I should try not to have an epidural, although I don't know why! Lots of people have said that it doesn't matter how you get the baby out and I know that is true really. Interesting to see that a lot of you had totally different labours second time around. I think it is the fear of being out of control that worries me!
