Think I have this, sorry for tmi but a bit itchy and sore down there, looks red and swollen too. Never had it before (well I have but it went away after a few days whereas this has been about a week) - what's the quickest, pg-safe way of dealing with it? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Sorry to hear you are suffering from this... I get recurrent thrush so I really do feel for you!

Best thing for me has always been a pessary used with the cream... put cream on asap to take down swelling and itchiness and pop pessary in over night to work its magic. Usually by the next day I feel loads better!

These are quite expensive btw but your doctor/midwife could prescribe it for you if you can wait that long.

    Hope this helps a bit.

P.S.: The pessary isn't recommended before 12 weeks of pregnancy and the oral tablet isn't safe at all as it's too concentrated, but the cream on it's own doesn't clear up the inside infection I find.

I went to the doctor with this yesterday. She perscribed canesten pessary and the cream. used the pessary last night and I'm already feeling abit better, within the next few days i should be back to normal again.

What she did say though is that if you get it in pregnancy it is very hard to get rid of untill after the baby is born as you produce alot more discharge and so the thrush grows quicker making it harder to treat.

If you go to Boots and get a pessary and cream which helps but doesn't completely clear it up you may need to use the pessaries every three days for a couple of weeks (I had to do this) and then I would definitely recommend going to the doctor because like Spring said, they are quite expensive, but the dr prescribed me a whole course of pessaries and cream on one prescription so I just had to pay the prescription charge. Hope it clears up soon hun, it's such a horrible thing.

I forgot to say as well that natural yoghurt works wonders too! Not sure about this in pregnancy though so you'd need to check first! xx

i have suffered thrush every week since i was 13 unfortunately at 9wks pregnant i have it every day. if 1% or 2% cansten style cream ie over the counter doesnt work, doc can prescribe trimovate itslike green paste yuck but helps.

best thing to do is before bed, got to loo, in sink mix some savlon/antiseptic liquid using a face cloth bathe the area i find easiest when still sitting on the loo. the cold water with sooth & the antiseptic will clean, pat dry & apply thick layer of cream (u can keep cream in the fridge so its cold going on - soothing again) either big pair of pants or go pantless with a nightie lots of air around it, in the morn clean area again this should help. hopefully you will only get once or twice.

u can get it orally & in your belly button too yuck
