I am 7 weeks pregnant and just curious as to see how many people thought it was neccessary to pay and have an early private scan? I know a couple of people who have done it and found it reassuring but equally I know someone who had one and then had a miscarriage. I am desperate to know all is ok and wondered ifpaying for private scans was fairly average or if most women just wait until their 12 week NHS one? My husband wants to wait to avoid heartache but I am so impatient! Thanks for reading. x

I had an early scan and they confirmed bubs was in right place and there was a heartbeat. Doesnt guarantee you wont miscarry but if they confirm all looks good the chances of miscarriage drop significantly. Id miscarried before so foundvthe early scan incredibly reassuring! Hope that helps xx

I was thinking about paying for a private scan when I was 10 weeks pregnant, but I decided to wait for my 12 week scan on NHS. 3 weeks later I was rushed into the emergency department and found out that my baby stopped developing at 10+5 and had to go for surgery I would have seen a happy baby had I opted for the private scan at 10 weeks so maybe good job I didn't?
I am ttc again and to be honest this time I will deffo pay for the private scan prior to my 12 week NHS scan. Like Rose86 said, early scans do not guarantee that you won't miscarry, but will provide some reassurance at least!
Good luck hun xxx

I had an early nhs scan with my last pregnancy due to a mc in an earlier pregnancy at 7 weeks. My early scan was at 8 weeks and we saw a lovely, healthy heartbeat. We were thrilled and so excited! We headed off to our 12 week scan a few weeks later to be told that our baby had died at about 10 weeks. My world fell apart and we were both devastated as we knew that after seeing a heartbeat at an early scan, the chances of mc were reduced.
Anyway, we got pregnant again pretty quickly and am now 28 weeks. I contemplated a private early scan but decided there was no point. scans are done at 12 weeks for a reason and in my opinion, an earlier one can just give false hope.
I would say save your money and just keep your fingers crossed for a healthy pregnancy.
Best of luck. xx

Thanks so much for your responses. I have decided its best to just wait it out and see hopefully all will be healthy at 12 weeks. I guess you never know what could happen but it would be awful to go and all is ok and then it isn't all of a sudden. Judy/hushpuppy, I am so sorry for your losses. I really appreciate your responses, they have helped me make a decision. I need to put my impatience to one side and wait it out like everyone else! Won't be too long now
Best of luck with everything x x

I think it depends on the sort of person you are.
For me it would worry me. I was petrified before both of my scans so I found I was better able to relax (best for baby) if I didn't tempt fate.
