I was typing in TTC in google to have a look (to also see if this place came up!) & I came across quite a few articles that suggested different diets/times of cycles & sexual positions which favour TTC for a boy of a girl. I'd never heard of this before. I have a beautiful girl & would love to have a boy (if I'm lucky enough to conceive again) although I would be perfectly happy with a girl. From the article it states:

I've heard of those before, i remember reading about them last time we were TTC. I *think* the boy sperm being faster does actually have some scientific background, the opposite theory being if you want a girl you have sex in run up to ovulation, rather than ovulation day itself. No idea of the others though, some are clear rubbish. Like the odd days of the month!!!!
I love wives tales like this though, and the ones about what sex you are having once you're pregnant. I know people who swear they've had a certain sex using recommended methods but obviously there is no way of confirming that!!
I've heard similar in that you're more likely to have a girl if you conceive a few days before ovulation - I also have some friends who tried this and it worked for them (whether it was chance or not who knows) No idea about the rest of it, some seems rather odd like partner suggesting love-making, make love at night and on odd days of the month, because of course they'll make a difference
ETA - not that you actually conceive a few days before ov, but conceive from having sex a few days before of course

I have heard of this...
There's a method called Shettles, which is supposed to be able to help you increase your chances of each gender, you can buy books on it and everything! Some of the scientific reasoning behind it sounds feasible to me although other bits seem a bit bonkers!
I think we're going to give it a go second time around to try and get a little girl as nothing to lose in trying!

So I'm not completely crazy in thinking about trying some of these things (obviously won't bother with some of them), but will try the food & having sex closer to ov & getting an O before him
As you said XMissyLoux - nothing to lose!

hmmm well I can tick the box for 7 of those... have to wait a few more months before I know whether they had any effect!!!

Were you actively trying for a particular sex jem179? I'm intrigued to hear if anyone's tried it & it worked for them!

No we weren't. To be honest having ttc for as long as I was any baby was nothing short of a miracle! It was just really interesting reading the list as I could say I'd actually covered most of them... odd thing is I do keep referring to baby as 'he' anyway, will be very strange if it's a girl now!!!!

I couldn't ever imagine setting out to specifically aim for one gender. I think following all
Our previous issues I just wanted every scan to go well iyswim and not present abnormalities.
I'd heard about the boy sperm before ov which i thought made sense but I suppose I'm still if the thought its a 50/50 chance.

We done everything the same both times and have boy girl.

Shettles has been disproved, and it actually seems that the other way around is more accurate; more girls are conceived from sex on the day of the ovulation. There's a whole chapter on it in "The Impatient Woman's Guide to Getting Pregnant".
My mum swears she ate more milk and cheese etc when she had me, and more meats when she had my brother.

Heard of them before. Didn't "follow" them, and I have 2 boys.
If there was a scientifically proven way of TTC a particular sex, I would have done it to make sure I got my boys (never wanted a girl).

I didn't use it but have heard of it most of them, especially the male sperm being fast but short lived, and predicted A was a boy based on the fact we conceived on the day I ovulated. This one I think was 2 days before and I was less confident in it being a boy, 20w scan confirmed it is a girl.
Of course I could quite possibly predict two tosses of a coin as well....

I've heard of it too, and going by this E should definitely be a boy, can tick eight of those! Pretty certain she's not though haha.
Have especially heard the food / diet one on tv recent ish.
eta: I'm not fussed over gender though, I don't think. I want the next baby to both girl so E has a sister after always wanting one myself, but a boy so we have that illusive one of each, so either way we can't lose as long as they are happy and healthy.

Some of this may be true, in terms of male sperm being faster, but you have no control over whether your H is producing more X or Y sperms, as it's not always 50/50. And also, there might be plenty of people who say it worked for them, but i bet there's also loads who it didn't work for who you don't hear about.
As long as you take it with a pinch of salt and don't expect a favourable outcome then you'll be fine. Whatever you do though, don't keep having kids just to get that elusive boy...my H's Auntie had 4 boys in desperation to have a girl, and that youngest boy knows that he was only conceived in the hope of getting a girl..!

I don't really see how the male sperm can be faster - that would mean the majority of IVF treatments would be boys as the egg is mixed directly with the sperm and going on that theory the male sperm would always get to the egg first.
As you say though it can't hurt, although I probably wouldn't make changes to my diet - especially when it is un-healthy food like salty things.

I've heard of this before. When we started thinking about trying for #2 I liked the thought of having a girl as we already had a boy (obviously wouldn't have really minded either way). I came off the pill quite a bit before we were aiming to start TTC, as it wasn't agreeing with me so I tried to work out when I was ovulating then stopped DTD a few days before I was expecting to ovulate. Obviously I don't know if it is coincidence or not but we had a little girl. Like someone else said its worth a try ;)

As you know I had 2 successful girl pregnancies and 1 successful boy pregnancy. We didn't do anything different at all, everything we did was exactly the same.

Thanks for all your replies. Since I've worked hard to lose weight I think I'll only adapt my diet if it's healthy to do so & may do the dtd when it says if I remember, but possibly nothing else!!

Borrow my boy, you'll soon change your mind about wanting one
