Are you having (or have you already had) more pregnancy scans than the 2 routine ones offered free on the NHS (1 at about 12 weeks and 1 at about 20 weeks)?
We know that there are lots of clinics out there offering private antenatal scans, for anything between £35 and £1000.
So are you tempted/have you been tempted to have private scans? If so, how many? And what was your main reason for wanting a private scan?
Or maybe you're happy just to have the 2 routine NHS scans?
We'd be SO interested to know your thoughts on this. Please do share them with us by adding a post to this thread – thank you!

With my first pregnancy, i had 3 scans as according to my dates i was 12 weeks pregnant, but ended up being just 10weeks at the first scan, so they have me another one at 13 weeks and the 20 weeks scan. With my second pregnancy, i had an early scan at EPU due to cramping at 6 weeks and saw we were having twins. Then i had another 12 week scan to find only one baby remaining, and from then on was under consultant scare and had an additional 3 scans.

Oh that's interesting, BobbieRae – but so sad about losing a twin - we're so sorry.
Did you pay for any private scans, too? Maybe a 3D or 4D one?

I didn't even know about private scans for 3D and 4D back then - wish i had cause i would absolutely have had and paid for them.

I wasn't remotely tempted to pay for a private scan because I ended up having 10 NHS ones. The standard 12 week one, a 9 week one (because of uncertain dates), and scans at the fetal medicine unit every 3-4 weeks from 13 weeks upto 37 weeks due to pregnancy complications.
The scans were very nerve-wracking, especially earlier on when we didn't know what was going to happen, and so you can imagine I don't exactly have positive associations with the whole scan experience! Thankfully everything was fine in the end. Even if I get pregnant for a second time and everything is fine from the start, I still can't imagine ever enjoying a scan now.

I had 3 with my son.
1 at 12 weeks, 1 at 20 weeks and 1 at 28 weeks because of a medical condition I have they just wanted to keep an eye on us both.

I had an early reassurance scan at 9 weeks (due to previous miscarriage) and the usual scans with the nhs but then I also paid for a 4D scan when i was 30 weeks so i could see what my baby looked like.

I had the standard two from the NhS- but I really wanted to see baby boy again. 20 weeks between the 2nd scan and him being more was too long for me to wait!! I just wanted to put a face to all the wriggles - I think it helped me bond and my husband Bond with babe especially. So, I got a 4d scan at 30 weeks and it was fantastic 💙 I'll def be doing it again for the next baby!

I had a 4D scan with both of my girls and absolutely loved them! I felt it was a really amazing bonding session and honestly feel like I fell in love with someone I hadn't even met yet as soon as I seen them on that screen 😍 x

With my first I had one scan at 18ish weeks as at that time my hospital only offered one routine scan. Then at 35 weeks I was diagnosed with Obstetric Cholestasis and had quite a few growth scans and one to check the blood flow through the umbilical cord. With my second I had a dating scan at 12 weeks and the anomaly at 18ish weeks then again got Cholestasis in the last month and had a few growth scans. With my third I chose not to have any scans having done a bit of research into them. I didn't get Cholestasis this time round so had no pressure to have growth scans or anything. I had no doppler/sonic aid either.

This pregnancy I've had one at 6, 9, 11 and 13 weeks and now we're planning one for 16weeks. This is due to previous missed miscarriage and I didn't want to wait until the dating scan to find out whether anything was wrong. 6 & 11 weeks were private and 16weeks will be private. For us, we'd rather pay than have the uncertainty- but is still stressful & make me anxious.
