Doctors phoned me today. I have another UTI apparently. I feel okay.
I had one a few weeks ago. Took antibiotics (reluctantly) and they made me feel really queasy :-(
I don't like pumping myself full of drugs normally, let alone when pregnant - particularly as I feel okay!
It was duty Doc that phoned. She had clearly already decided on the treatment before speaking to me - antibiotics. Didn't inspire much confidence when she asked "how old was baby now?". Err not due for another 7weeks!!???

i dont see what she has done wrong tbh, you have an infection, it needs treating with antibiotics particularly in late pregnancy as uti in pregnancy can cause early labour.
what other treatment were you wanting?
all pregnant women have the urine sent for microscopic lab testing if a uti is suspected, to make sure there is actually a bacteria there.
am i missing something? im not sure what else she could have offered ????

I've had a lot of uti's in the past (studenthood mainly!) so I know how awful they can make you feel ... I can't understand how I can have one but have no symptoms.

I work in gum and the majority of pregnant ladies we see are suffering complications of untreated uti's - they end up needing stronger meds that have increased risks for baby. Whilst you may be feeling fine at the moment, you do have a degree of immune suppression when pregnant, and are at higher risk of complications. Also if you go untreated and needed a catheter during or after labour you could potentially make yourself even worse.
Obviously your Dr misread dates, but they don't give out antibiotics flippantly these days.

As someone who gave birth prematurely I wouldn't question it personally, I just take them. Rather feel a bit queasy than have an early baby!

Right, okay, you lot have made more sense than the doc - (it did sound like she was dishing out antibiotics 'flippantly').

I had a UTI that they picked up on when I went in to hospital to have my son, I had no symptoms at all.
I had a really terrible chest infection with my second baby but I didn't realise b/c I had almost no symptoms then as well. Had to take pretty strong antib's for 1- days b/c I had left it so long to go to the GP. Baby was absolutely fine no problems at all. I was around 18 weeks pregnant when I had the antibs
