H is waking around every 3-4 hours on a night and has been doing for a few weeks with the odd night of only waking once or sleeping through. When he wakes he wants a feed before going back to sleep. Before this he would sleep 10 to 12 hours from being small. He's 21 weeks now. He doesn't feed loads in the day and rarely seems to be starving.
any suggestion as to why he might be waking and what I can do to help him sleep better. I'm exhausted and can't believe his sleep has got worse not better as he's got older! I did wonder growth spurt but its been too long now I think.
any help appreciated

How often is H feeding during the day? W feeds every 2 hours almost during the day and we give him a bedtime feed and he sleeps for 4 to 5 hours at night. Granted he is only 4 weeks old, so not nearly as big as H. My HV said that if they feed lots during the day, they're more likely to sleep longer at night. I'm not sure how much truth there is in that though.

I can't suggest anything other than what RKB has already mentioned. Just make sure hes feeding enough during the day. Up til Isla was 6.5 months she was feeding every 2 hours during the day and would wake once sometimes twice at night.
My friends LO did as yours is doing and slept through early on but then started waking regularly. I'm not sure there's much more you can do to help.

It sounds like growth and development tbh, they tend to mess up their sleep around 20ish weeks for a few weeks, you will notice that he will tackle more things now like rolling/trying to sit etc. Isaac was a fantastic sleeper then went wrong around this age but fixed himself a few weeks later....Lucas didn't

It's entirely normal for babies to still wake in the night until they are around 2, I'm afraid! I can sympathise as mine went from doing midnight to 8am with only one wake-up, to waking every 1-2 hours (and, one memorable night, every 45 minutes!!). He's much more settled now (24 weeks) but we cosleep so I don't get up in the night which helps, I don't remember all his wakings even.
I would try to get him to feed more in the day. Are you still BFing? If so maybe spend a day with him in bed, lots of skin-to-skin and offer the boob often.

Thanks everyone. I am bfing on demand but I would say he often goes more than 2 hours or only has 'a snack'. He's too busy looking around or playong. Ill try see if he will take more though and see if it helps.
Now though he's just wriggling around pulling off and turning the other way!

I agree it sounds like a gs and development leap. E has had about three weeks of it and hopefully we're finally coming out of it now.

There's a massive growth spurt at 16 weeks and I have to say the period from about 17 weeks til post 6 months was the worst for disturbed sleep. They're learning SO much, trying to sit up/roll/crawl, gearing up to food and just growing that it all leads to disturbed sleep I'm afraid.
I just went with him and fed him, milk production is higher at night so he may well be waking to feed to up your supply. I also co slept and often fed lying down whilst snoozing.

Have you tried feeding where there are no distractions, dark room and facing a wall so it's boring (for you too unfortunately!)

It's sounds very much like a gs, if he doesn't want it in the day then he's wanting the fattier milk at night. Try feeding in a quiet place with few distractions but if he's turning his head he sounds like he isn't hungry.

We had 3 weeks of horrendous nights (waking every 1.5-2 hours) before her first tooth came through at 6 months. Has settled again now thank god, she's nearly 8 months now x
