    PM

Hi. We are a couple of weeks into weaning at 6  months and about to start breakfast. At the moment, B is having a good serving of puree at 12 pm ish and BF at around 7/8 am, 10 am, 1 pm, 4 pm and 7 pm.

My confusion is how to fit several meals a day in around milk. Do we stick with the BFs she has and squeeze food into spaces between these (seems like she'll spend all day eating, one way or another?!) or do we give solids first at a BF time and just then top up with milk straight after?

I'm not sure if (as she still needs milk for nutrition) food is supposed to be as well as a full quota of milk, or already partly replacing it?

Any advice/sharing of your timetables appreciated :-)

Well we only have a very loose timetable at the mo but my rule of thumb is milk first then solids about an hour after - that way she's not too full but also not starving hungry.  We're 2 weeks in and no sign of any feeds being dropped yet (day or night, sigh).  Milk should be their main form of nutrition to pretty much 12 months.

You're right, it's CONSTANT feeding though.

Thanks Morph. That's what I've been doing, lunch-wise. I just suddenly wondered how I was going to fit other meals in though and if I was doing it wrong! B feeds for ages during BF too, as it's her excuse to nap, so I can see us never getting out the house! :-p

ah, see M is a really quick feeder, literally 5 mins max each side.  It does all take over your life a bit doesn't it?  I can't get used to remembering to take food out for her, lol

W has a relatively well established timetable now.  He gets his breakfast around 7am, an 8oz bottle between 8 and 9 (based on what time he got up at) he gets his lunch at 12pm, another 8oz bottle around 2pm, Dinner is 5pm then it's bottle and bed at 7pm.  but we've been weaning for about 8 weeks now!

Thanks RKB. W is doing well! I'll just carry on taking B's lead with food and milk for now, even if it does seem like she's feeding for England! :-)

I gave a meal an hour after a bottle so he wasn't too hungry to fuss and could enjoy experimenting. He gradually cut down milk feeds himself, I always offered but found be was taking less. As long as they get 500mls still that's fine.

    At first our routine was

    8am milk

    9am porridge

    12pm milk

    1pm lunch

    4pm milk

    5pm tea

    8pm milk

    2am milk

    5am milk

    A few months in its

    8-9am milk and porridge

    1pm lunch

    5pm tea

    8pm milk and porridge

    4am milk

In fact I have to give porridge at night now too as he gets hungry before bed but won't take barely any milk. You'll find they get themselves into a routine
