As D day looms ever closer, I was wondering if the old wives tale is true that your 2nd labour is usually quicker than your first??
Was this the case for you??

It was for me. Quicker, and easier.
09/05/2013 at 10:00
Yep, mine was quicker
09/05/2013 at 10:04
Yes my 2nd was quicker too.
09/05/2013 at 10:42
yes, much quicker and easier (vbac)

My second was quicker and easier, but I had to be induced with my first because of complications so not really sure that its a fair comparison.

Yes much quicker, much better and more a 'textbook labour'
Hope its true for you too M x
09/05/2013 at 11:31
Yep, 1st labour was nearly 50 hrs, second was about 35 hours and much easier
09/05/2013 at 11:32
50 frigging hours!!!!! Oh my life!!!!!!!!! Garfield you are a trooper!
09/05/2013 at 11:40
Yes it was quicker and easier for me too. First labour was 22.5 hours and needed forceps, second was 10.5 hours and no assistance needed.
09/05/2013 at 11:53
Yes though I was induced first time round. I felt the pushing stage came about far more quickly than when I was induced.

Jeez...this scares me! Homebirth it'll be for me next time round then! :O
09/05/2013 at 12:27
Definitely yes and much much easier.
#1 induced 24hrs ish forceps in theatre
#2 natural 11 hrs just 20 mins gas and air
#3 natural 8hrs ish shoulder dystocia no pain relief, very nasty at the end
2nd ones are generally quicker and easier on the whole. 3rd + can go either way apparently. You'll be fine with a 2nd !

Reading this with interest (and terror!) as first labour was less than 6 and a half hours! As long as it happens during the night so we don't have to deal with rush hour as well!!
09/05/2013 at 13:10
MrsH....we will have to compare notes afterwards!!! My labour was documented as 7 hours with C.....although from start to finish it was more like 14. I really hope I can halve it this time as I want a quick exit from hospital so I can get home to C xx

Mine was longer, but then I was induced 1st time and 2nd was back to back moving to sideways. Both ended up in a long pushing stage and assisted delivery (ventouse 1st time, forceps 2nd). There won't be a 3rd!
09/05/2013 at 16:35
no, it was about an hour longer (1st was 4.5)
09/05/2013 at 17:03
knew I shouldn't have read this thread, if my first labour was 6hours what does that mean if we have a second?
09/05/2013 at 17:36
This worries me. ALthough technically my labour was 55 hours with P, i went from 0.5cm to birth in 4.5 hours at the end, forst 50 hours did nothing as she was back to back and not moving. If the actual dilating bit goes faster with the next one it could be scary fast!

Me too, my labour with Isla was 5 hours!
