Baby #2 will aarrive when L is 2&1/2. We have a bedside crib that baby will go in in our room for 6months. So by the time baby needs the cot, L will be 3. Will she be able to move to a proper single bed by then? (I know its ages away but I'm a planner!)

Sorry, forgot to say - we are wondering if we can get away without a toddler bed? The cot is actually a cotbed and she has the side off already but has a bedguard

M went into a double bed when she was 2y 8m. We went to DisneyLand and I forgot her grobag so she had to sleep in the double bed they had.
We'd been toying with buying a king size so when we got back off holiday, we did and she inherited our double.
If she's already in the cot bed without a side on, it won't be any different. Just put the bed guard onto the bed.

Both mine have been in full size single beds by 2.5 so I would think she will be fine.

My son was 2 last Thursday and he had a bed for his birthday. It's a toddler bed as we couldn't get a normal one we liked enough in time. He's already had a night in my old bed at my mums. He has had a duvet for a year now, plus he isn't a topsy turkey sleeper iykwim so it seemed the right time. So far (touch wood) he has had no problems at all. May be a different story once baby arrives and disrupts his sleep!

Bed at mums has proper guard. Toddler bed is from ikea and has very small rail.

Aaron went into toddler bed at 18 months then a single just over 3.5

E went into a normal sized bed at about 2 y 8m I think. She didn't even have a bedguard as it wouldn't fit the bed we got, she's been fine. she has fallen out maybe 2/3 times, but she just gets back into bed and goes back to sleep.
I think the only thign we did was made sure we moved her a few months before C moved into the cotbed she vacated as we didn't want her to feel like she was being pushed out for her sister. She had a bigger bedroom and new duvet sets to help her along too :)

Luke went from a cot bed size cot to a full sized single bed with a bed guard aged 3 yrs 1 month, we would have put him in one earlier but we waited until he was less medically complex. he looked tiny in it to begin with but now aged 4 1/2 is filling it out nicely. It's nice to a have full sized bed for cuddles :)

My daughter went into a single bed with a bed guard last easter so she must have been around 19m. She is a great sleeper, we've had no problems x

Our eldest went into a proper single bed at about 21 months because we needed her cot for the twins! No probs what so ever with it.

We needed the cot back for number 2 so number one went in a full size single at 21 months. We never had any kind of small bed as only a 2 bed house and a single bed is what we had.

A went into a full size single when we needed the toddler bed for L. Think she was 3.5 and we've never used bed guards.

we had to make cotbed into junior bed with both mine before they were 2. Son had started climbing out, and with daughter she had decided she wanted to potty train before she was 2 and was dry at night so needed her to be able to get out of bed as she insisted she could do it herself. both were fine, just had stairgate at top of stairs

J went into a full sized single at about 20 months with no problem

S was 22 months and went into a toddler bed purely because we were moving house, he was massive anyway and I couldn't be bothered to put the cot back together.
He's slept in a single at my parents since about then too.
Only issue we had was getting him to stay in bed and go to sleep for the first month or so
