Looking to skip any uneccessary purchases...
What did you think you'd need but ended up not using?

Baby bath! Just ran a shallow normal bath and was so much easier. I have bought a bath seat for P but havent used that yet either!

I bought everything possible and used everything so far! Lol. Actually one thing was fitted crib sheets as he sleeps in a poodle pod so doesn't sleep on the sheet for that to need changed as regularly. Ck lent me her slings which I'm glad about as buying one would have been a waste as at 12 weeks I used it for the first time yesterday and won't again for a while as my back is killing today but its handy for going around asda.

My mum gave me a baby bath which they had had for years and I didn't use it.

Never used the baby bath here either. Bumbo was a waste of money too, trying to think if theres anything else

I didn't buy loads of stuff, but have used everything I have bought. Never bought a baby bath, just used the large sink in the bathroom to start with and then used the main bath. We have a bumbo (bought second hand off ebay for £4!!) which I now use lots as a different place for her to sit if I am hanging out the washing etc!

Er... the cot haha. He refuses to sleep in it.
Bumbo he used a few times but quickly learned to sit so then we didn't need it!!
We had far too many clothes in 0-3 and not enough in tiny baby.
Top and tail bowl was never used.

I actually found a baby bath really useful. After having a CS it was good not to have to bend down to do it. I used to get H to put it on the kitchen table for me so it was perfect height. I have it away last time once she was too big but will hopefully get one again this time ( if I can pick a cheap one up on eBay)

We've used everything bar the 0-6 month 2.5 tog gro bags as it's been such a hot summer and as Sam is so long they don't fit now.
We haven't used the nappy bin much since the early days (when it was very handy!) but a friend gave it us anyway so it wasn't a waste.

I loved my baby bath too, had the mamas and papas one. I'm planning on getting another as Jude loves a deep bath so won't be suitable for baby and he can help me bath baby if we have a smaller baby bath.
Pram! I used slings so much.

Tummy tub wasnt really necessary, nor any type of bath support. I didnt really make the most of my sling for the price but wish I hadnt sold it to try again this time! Coats - I got quite a few as presents but much preferred the Morrck hoodie - easier to unwrap indoors (e,g, shops, malls, even in the car) to avoid overheating. I dont think Miss CV once wore a coat until she was toddling. Blankets - was given loads of cellular blankets and bought quite a few more as thought that's what you did but rarely used them between grobags & the Morrck hoodie.
Miss CV didnt particularly like her (expensive) cot mobile or playmat either, but again, wish I had kept them - the mobile looked cute and a playmat is always worth a try.

Another one here who liked the baby bath, purely because I didn't feel confident enough with a big bath, but would probably do without if we have another! We used most things but I bought a whole cot bedding bundle with a little duvet, a bumper, a few sheets etc (not even sure what they're all for!) but he's only ever used a gro bag and a sheet on the mattress so that was a waste!

Baby bath. I used the kitchen sink then the big bath.
Change mat, I did most changes on my knee.
Expensive high chair. Ikea antipope was much better (had that second time round)

Moses, carry cot

Baby bath was a waste of time in our house. Bumbo can be quite good short term but defo get second hand.
20/08/2013 at 12:52
Never used a top and tail bowl, but did use a lot of the things people have listed here... baby bath and seat (our bathroom is tiny so we bath her in the hallway!), bumbo, moses, playgym...all very useful in this household!

Baby bath and bumbo here too.
I didn't use my big travel system for the second and third babies, it was too heavy to manoeuvre whilst holding hands with a toddler so I just used a stroller type that was suitable from birth.

What's a 'poodle pod' and a Morrck and a tummy tub??
Jeez! I *knew* this would happen. It's like I've landed on a new planet. I've not had to think baby for years and years and years. This is going to be such a challenge!!

I used my baby bath loads, and my top and tail bowl, the bumbo got some use too but I'd definitely agree with buying it second hand.
I thought I had to have baby towels, but looking back an ordinary towel works just fine, if not better as its bigger for wrapping them in.
Oh, and the nappy wrapper bin thing - that was a complete waste of money.
