As the title really in interested what this means for everyone?

I have been told that a 6 hour stretch is the technical definition of sleeping through. Jacob has taken to doing bedtime (7.30pmish) until about 4/5am two nights out of three so I count that as sleeping through - although maybe I'm just a bit desperate after nearly 3 years!

I think 5/6 hours is classed as 'sleeping through' Lucas slept 7-5 from 11 months but regularly went back to night wakings even niw at 4 sleep still isnt great, Isaac slept 8-7 from 6 weeks. Both bf on demand, I did nothing different! If we have another I want another Isaac

My understanding is the same as Margot's, based on which C slept through from 10/11 weeks, 11pm - 5am.

I counted sleeping through as going down anytime before 11 and waking after 5am! I marvel at these babies who do near on 12 hours at under one. I think S was about 4 months when he slept through which coincided with weaning and subsequently his reflux easing. Hoping this time we deserve an easy sleeper. Have no idea how people cope back at work with a child who wakes up multiple times regularly!

I count sleeping through as going to sleep when I do and not waking up until morning - and by that I mean not before 6.30am. Zoe did this from 10 weeks old, in fact she did 11pm until 8am.

I count it is asleep before 11, and not awake until after 7, b has done this from a few months old

I counted it as Isla not waking for a feed at all over night. At 3 months she'd go down at 8 ish but always wake twice (at least) before 6am for feeds. At 6.5 months she slept through from 7pm-6am without waking at all, no change in anything we did. I realise now that we were very lucky but at the time it felt like a very long 6.5 months!

I would class it as sleeping for the bulk of the night. L has been doing the minimum of 9pm - 6am for the past 6 weeks, quite the opposite of O.

Jelly baby- Can I order a sleeper like Zoe please!?

I know it's not the official definition but I class it as going to bed around 7.30pm and sleeping through til morning, 6.30am ish at the earliest, basically so I don't have to get up to them in the night at all. Flynn did it for 3 weeks from 5 months but then broke and didn't do it regularly again until 16 months. Tate was 12 months and Rafferty is 15 months and isn't doing it, we sometimes get 8.30pm-5am from Rafferty which is a huge improvement but I just wish he'd go to 6am (never satisfied lol)

I guess it depends when you would usually wake up too as we're early risers usually, H for work and me for my horse! Before 5am is still nighttime to me!

For me, sleeping through, was sleeping from when I put him down, until he woke at a reasonable hour. Say, 6.30am at the earliest.
J slept 7.00/7.30pm until 6.30/7.00am at 5 weeks.

I would class sleeping through as not waking up until morning- the HV tried to tell me that as J went 7:30-3 he ha slept through, I asked her how many people she knew who starte their day at 3am

I thought a five hour stretch counted as sleeping through. In which case she was doing that from about 9/10 weeks until she stopped doing it at about 18 weeks and went back to three hourly wakings. It's only in the last month that we've started to be able to get her down before 10, she wakes for a feed at 2.30ish and then sleeps til we have to leave for work at 7.
They're all different!

I would class A as sleeping through (touch wood!), as he has his last feed at 10.30/11pm, then sleeps until 6/7am. I feel much more human during the day now I'm getting 6 hours of sleep in a block (I'm still having to get up to express as my boobs are solid by morning)

I class it as sleeping from when I put him to bed, until morning (no earlier than 6/6:30am) For nearly a month now hes slept 7pm-7am ish, I hear him at 6ish but he goes back off. Its so good! He used to be a terrible sleeper so we've come a long way.
03/05/2013 at 15:57
I wouldn't count 6 hours as sleeping through E slept 10pm- 6/7am from 9 weeks and then did 12 hours from 5 months. M does 12 hours now and started when he was c12 weeks. I think my children take after me, we like sleeping!
03/05/2013 at 18:19
I'd class it as me not having to get up to them during the night! So sleeping from when I go to bed until 7 ish

I know the 'proper' definition is sleeping about 6hrs in a row, I'd probably take it as not having to get up to feed or comfort.
*whispers* otis slept through for the first time this week.... AT 13 DAYS OLD it's alright, I know it won't happen again
